Hi guys. I'm new to the forum and new to range rovers. I bought a p reg p38 diesel 2.5 for towing a trailer. I knew the clutch wasn't great (high) so changed it at the weekend. At the same time I gave it a service. I then test drove it and immediately noticed the injector light flashing on and lurching the truck for a split second as soon as I go above 2200 rpm but clears after 3000 rpm. I changed the crank shaft position sensor as this was the only code. It made no difference!!!!! I have heard horror story's of fuel pumps and injectors but can't help but think it's only happened since I changed the fuel filter (I have changed again since) or did the clutch. Any ideas????

Possibly number four injector.

Yes I've looked into that. I unplugged it and tried to run it as I thought It may default or something???? It just wouldn't start then when I plugged it back in it still wouldn't start untill I gave it a shot of easystart then its fine. Plenty of power all up untill 2200. Baffles me

Lack of power after 2200-2700 rpm would most likely be the MAP sensor I owuld have thought....won't cause your blinking injector light though...that is chiefly the No4 Injector as Wammers says!

Faulty number four may cause it to jump in and out of limp mode. Not a lot above 3000 RPM in limp mod. Don't know what he used for diag.

Ah ok I might just bite the bullet and order one. Is it changeable without any special tools? I forgot to mention it does occasionally stall when its booted hard past 3000

What diag are you using? No you need a special socket. Stalling from that speed maybe something else do you mean the engine stops?

As always, a font of knowledge and learned experience.....

Heard much from Keith recently?? this new layout takes a bit of getting used to...and I 'feel' it has lost a bit of the 'community' feel and feels more 'clinical' to me....but hey, all it is is a place to post opine and advice/help so looks are immaterial to the content I guess.....

Yes i agree seems a bit disjointed. No heard nothing from him don't know what he is up to. Maybe on holiday.

And yes it just cuts out then ignition on and off and alls fine again

Sounds more like fuel quantity servo problem to me. Does it ever stall approaching lights from tick over or when gear is engaged? Does engine MIL lamp flash coming out of cruise control?

I think without proper diagnostics you're in trouble.

I'm going to guess at a duff sensor somewhere ... but where?! :)
Could be number four injector playing up. But only thing that will cause engine to be shut down is fail of quantity feedback pot.

I've found a set of second hand injectors that have come from a runner so going to change number 4 tonight. Fingers crossed

Engine will not shut down if number four injector is duff, engine will just go to limp mode. No power above 3000 RPM. Only thing that can shut engine down is failing quantity feed back pot, when the ECU does not know quantity servo position, the shut off valve is actuated stopping fuel flow to pressure head.
