Hi Folks,
Checked my oil level a week ago on my 2004 Td4 only to find it had gone up considerably.
(I have experienced a poor return on the previous tank of fuel (about 21mpg).
On further investigation I believe it is diesel in the oil!. I have had the sense not to drive it and it will be transported to the garage on Wednesday.
I am keen to get as much info as I can in order to minimise any repair costs, as I have spent a few quid on it already (cluth, flywheel, master & slave cylinder, diff mounts Oh and the VCU and a set of 4 tyres.
The car has not given any cause for concern by its performance..... starts fine, runs steady at about 800-900 rpm, pulls up the hills ok and no warning lights on the dash, so I am at a loss as to what the problem is.
Your help will be appreciated. Thanks :)

Could well be as you'll read a or some leaking injectors, which are letting far too much fuel into the cylinder(s), this excess fuel is then washing past the piston rings and ending up in the sump, causing the oil level to rise, and poor fuel consumption.
Youv'e done the right thing in not driving it, hopefully not too pricey for you....

With all that unburnt fuel, surely there'd be masses of smoke noir ?...

Thanks to all of you who have responded.
I must admit that leaking injectors did come to mind, but as I've said before, there were no symptoms that gave me cause for concern not even a hint of black smoke. I assume (wrongly I know) that the EGR or crankcase breather will not have contributed to this? I intend to get these items replaced while it's in the garage though. Not a knew EGR I hasten to add..... a blanking kit)

Hi Folks,
A quick update - Did not use the Freebie once I realised there was a problem. Had it trailered to a guy who came recommended as a Land Rover wiz. Test showed 1 injector pooring fuel in which was going striaght into sump. Good job I don't do long trips eh?
The plan - 4 refurbished injectors. New crankcase breather, EGR bypass arrived today so that is being fitted, oil flush and new oil and filter. (All work / parts guaranteed ,not EGR naturally). Oh, I forgot to say that he checked the bores with some sort of camera kit to ensure that there was no damage and there is not.

Ah yes !! the price I hear you say, hold tight ---£900.00. I know some of you might think more money than sense, but I've spent so much on it !!!!!!!!! and hopefully I'll get a good trade in for an invalid car....I'll have to keep it that long.
Picking Freebie up in the morning, will let you know how it performs.
Have a good weekend all. Regards BPK
