I know Matash has got the same question going but I didn't want to hi-jack his thread.
I've got the same problem - '52 TD5, fuel filling up the sump. I've had the injector seals done but now am faced with a head change as I understand this is the only other cause for this? Is there, by any slim chance, another possibility? If not, what sort of cost will I be looking at for a head and fitting?

can you give us more detail ie engine performance, power, smoke .uneaven running ect ect

It runs fine, it just doesn't start as well as it used to 2-3 seconds instead of instant.
The oil level goes up about 1/4" every 30 miles - when I found the fault about 3 gallons of diesel/oil got drained out of the engine.
She's off the road now waiting repair as draining and re-filling with oil every week isn't too practical!

This seems to be either the injector seals, or a cracked cylinder head.

Who did the seals for you last time? It might still be that, and it's quite an easy fix.

My local garage - the guy there is quite well respected on Landrovers - he also races them so I would guess he knows what he's doing.
I use to rebuild bike race engines when I used to race but not done any diesels - how easy's easy?

Well, I had my injectors out when I was away from home when a washer was leaking on me. It's very nearly an "in a lay-by" job. The tools I used were all from a ALDI £5 socket set!

If you ever fitted pistons and valves, you won't have any trouble, but you DO need to take care, and to understand certain possible snags in these crazy injectors. One essential tool is a 10ml syringe with about 6 inches of windscreen washer hose on the end. Oh yes, and a heel-bar to replace a LR special tool for hoicking the injectors up, and a small flat fine NEW file to fix the washers, some Red Hermetite, and a small torque wrench.

A big clean rag is good for stopping dropped tools going down the cam chain gallery.

After those things all you need is the RAVE manual, common sense, and a lot of care.

Piece of cake.
