Hi'

Have had a problem with my 97' 2.5 cutting out usually on junctions or roundabout after a long coast with foot off the throttle. (This results is loss of power steering etc) A few of you gave me a few good suggestions last year but being the type to do the job only as a last resort, I still havent got around to them. My son worked at a BP garage and was told that diesel from TOTAL garages can cause cutting out on all types of diesel vehicles. (I always get mine from TOTAL)

Tried it for the last four to five weeks and by using the TOTAL fuel the cutting out still happens. With the BP or Morrisons brands I've had no problems whatsoever. With mixing the two, the cutting out happens now and again.

So, if any of you have a similar problem maybe changing your usual supplier is worth a try.

hmm, thats an unusual thing ever heard, but i know for sure, when i fill my petrol from asda, it usually gives me 11-12 mpg, when i fill from bp or total or shell, it would just stick to 9.7-10.5. I have did a bit of research on it and found that asda had some sort of detergent in their petrol, seems to kick the beasty in the rangie. But i guess i would be moving onto lpg in the next 6 months, the way petrol prices are kicking up, cant seem to afford, especially when you have 3 cars at home. BTW anyone knows a good, cheap lpg fitting company.

blurry eck - 9.7mpg? makes my motors seem stingy on fuel:eek:.

DJ Factor whereabouts in the country are you I couldn't see from your profile? and Just to put a quick moan......Flamin diesel + petrol prices are a joke anyway, I have been to a few European countries in the last few months and the diesel is at least 10p cheaper than petrol along with the fact the price is cheaper in Europe than over here!!!!!

When I heard a colleague of mine went to work over in Bahrain last month and was going to pay £0.20p per litre I couldn't believe it!!!!

SAMATT i live in surrey, Im originally from Dubai and trust me there was a time when we used to put in 1 gallon for £0.25 there, now its for about £0.75. Its just here in uk that the petrol prices are expensive...

Sounds like an idle valve problem to me, had that once in a Vaxhall Vectra and it was the air idle valve. It has to do with the flow rate of fuel to air mix and would be affected by different fuel suppliers. ie more or less sulphur for instance as sulphur burns easily so more sulphur easier start and cheaper fuel generally, blah, blah, etc, etc.

Thanks Slippy, I'll check that out. Since I've written the post and stayed away from TOTAL garages I've had no problems at all.
