I'm putting the head back on my DSE and I have a query about the setting of the camshaft sprocket. RAVE indicates that the sprocket should be torqued up before removing the locking pin from the chain tensioner. I don't understand this, because with the tensioner held back there is, of course, some slack in the chain. That means that the location of the sprocket relative to the camshaft isn't really set.
So, I have located the sprocket on the camshaft with the bolt not fully tight, then released the tensioner, then torqued up the bolt (obviously with the cam locking tool in place and so on). This means that the location of the sprocket relative to the chain, and therefore the crank was set before torquing the bolt.
Have I misunderstood RAVE, done it wrong, or does this approach make sense?
TIA.
