Diesel airlock?

My 2002 td5 truck cab starts first time on level ground or if it is facing down hill, but if I try to start with it pointing up hill I rundown the battery as it will not start. If moved to level ground and the battery recharged will start after a few tries. The problem is then cured until I forget and park I facing up hill. Where is the problem, any ideas.

Hi. Suspect a weak fuel pump as it sounds link you are struggling when the engine is that much higher than the tank. Do you get any issues with very low fuel in tank

Yes if level gets v low, difficult to start, but no loss of power even when towing trailer. Fuel pump was renued last year. Thanks for help.
