Dickie/boot seats in Discovery series 1

Hi all,

Thinking of returning to the Disco-fold after years away. Seen a nice 200tdi, but don’t think it has the 6th/7th seats in the boot which I want.

Is it just a case of buying them and bolting them in? Are fixings there on all cars? I know there are various problems with type approval when fitting extra seats to a Disco 2 due to air/coil suspension but don’t think these apply to 200/300tdis?

Not all D2s have air suspension, thank heavens!
I would imagine that the holes for the bolts would be present on all vehicles, though it may take some digging to find them.
Someone else on this site will have ideas about the problems with type approval, insurance and registration. Don't know if you would have to change the rear springs or not, but that is a pretty easy job on a D1 anyway. If you are deeply concerned about this I would just wait for one with seats, not sure but I have seen more with seats than bins.
D1 seats far less complicated than D2, forward facing, numbers. But less comfortable and I suppose less safe. Our D2 has the bins which we prefer, as they are so useful and our grand kids are more or less grown up now so less need for the seats. Our D1s have the seats, which we would like to swap for the bins, but they are rarer to find on sale, although I have to confess that I have not really tried any harder than looking on eBay. Breakers probably have them. I suspect you will find a D2 or D1 with seats without having to try too hard But the seats are definitely available. What colour are yours, as we have both buff leather seats and grey cloth seats. If you bought one with bins maybe we could come to some arrangement. We are in East Dorset.
The 200tdi must be pretty old, is it in good nick? Anyway, pleased to know yet another person is looking to preserve another of these lovely vehicles

The 200 series body construction didn’t have any major changes when the 300 series arrived they did was just cosmetic. Remove the side panels in the boot area and you will see the fixing holes for the seats and their belts behind.
There’s a few seats, belts and replacement panels on eBay most times if you not worried about the material or colour, possibly all you’ll have to find is the bolts required. The parts catalogue and workshop manuals show in seats in detail.

The fun starts with the boot seats fitted is getting access to the rear lamp bulbs, it’s a bit of a pain.
Don’t worry about ‘type approval’ that is a regulation that’s a only appropriate for the manufacturers and the manufacturer of the vehicle.
