We've had our P38 4.6 Vogue (2000, X plate) for about 6 months now, and it's just had its first service, at an independent (one man band, Jaguar specialist, but seems to know his way around a P38). He reported that when he plugged in his diagnostic equipment, it wasn't being powered up by the car - and when he powered it via the cigarette lighter, it didn't recognize that the car was there. The plug is showing some corrosion, so he suggested booking it back in again at some point in the near future to try and get the diagnostics working. Is this a common issue with P38s, and what is likely to be wrong - a plug/wiring problem, a problem with the car end of the diagnostics, or a problem with the garage's diagnostic equipment?

Many thanks for any help/advice :)

HE wont have any luck without the proper land rover diagnostic electronics, the motor trade prefer SNAP ON electronics cos they will do any car, apart from land rovers that is,my pal has tried 7 snap ons on my motor without any luck whatever, the rangie wont even reconise that they,r there ..........dave

dave, hes a jag specialist!!! as in jaguar landrover. he should know that. if not its worth reminding him tho!!

the connection for the dlc will be corroded. its a common issue!

WATCHER gav how you doing? my pal where i get my m o ts done didnt have any bother with corrosion on mine ,he plugged in it lit up ,went through everything ,it connected to the snap on ,it just would,nt give him any feedback,it just ignored him;ie bog off, mindd you he did say it happens on every modern landy he tries.....lol ....dave

I am with Datatek on this one too.
Not only can there be corrosion on the obdii connector itself, but also the connection of earth to the body has been known to be problematic.

It measures fine until you put an amp or two of equipment on it.
