Now I have my Td5 finally, first order of busines is to get her valeted properley, no issues on that one when I get the old meguires buffer going.

Next I want to look at a diagnostic tool... because I really wanna work on my own truck my self and I dont fancy having to keep taking it to one of the local garages and being fed aload of bull.

Yet I am no mechanic, but I'll have a bash at anything, just make sure theres no hammer about :D

I know of two on the market, either Nancom or Hawkeye.... from everyone here, which is better
 
Personally, I would go for a Nano-thats what ill be getting soon...reason...its been around a while now, has good write ups & good firmware upgrades & support from what i can see.
Hawkeye, developed for Bearmach by Omitec...I sell Omitecs range at work...one example; I have one account thats had probs with his Omiscan machine for 14 months...the support is useless & quite frankly so are the updates.
Whether that will reflect in the Hawkeye unit remains to be seen but for that reason its a firm "no" from me
 
If you go for a Nanocom I would hold off for a month or so, I have been told that production of the current Nanocom has ceased and a new model will be available in April, shortly followed by modules for the Autobox and V8.

Also the Hawkeye costs money to upgrade the frimware (have to buy a cable), and don't know about later versions, but my friend has just bought one and it has NO facility to write settings to the BCU at all!!!...............so cannot program keys, change vehicle config, enable heated screens (if not fitted) etc etc...........not good for £300 "imo".
 
I have a BBS Faultmate which is expensive, takes time to set up but is good and the support & updates also good.
Only gripe is it can't do too much with the Motronic 5.2.1 on my V8, can reset adaptive & clear faults but thats all for now.
 
I also have a BBS faultmate msv1, used it on my range rover and can honestly say that it became an invaluable part of my tool box, but unfortunately it broke and is currently back in Cyprus for repair.So I havent had chance to use it on the td5 yet but if its as good as on the rangie i`ll be more than pleased.

Ahh you see thats where the faultmate is a con as its locked to a single vehicle licence which sucks ass!!!

They would sell LOADS more if that were not the case. For features and value for money a Nanocom is impossible to beat "imo"

In a recent e-mail Mattia from Nanocom told me that production of the 'current' model stopped in Dec and a new model is coming out the end of April, beginning of May and at the same-ish time additional modules will be available V8 petrol engines and electronic autoboxes.
 
have a Rovacom MK2 absolutly brilliant
coveres all the p38 models ,disco 1 ,2 td5, v8
brilliant bit of kit and not tied to any particular model

With my Rovacom (when its fixed) i can choose to have the license for 1 vehicle which obviously is the cheapest option or for all of a particular model, or more expensive still for all land rover models.
I agree its not the cheapest but when i had the Range Rover it was the cheapest option and the nanocom wasn`t any good for that car, but now they are only going to charge me £56 for the change of license to the Discovery. If it works on this car as well as it did on the last i will be very happy.
