Wammers on the nail again:)

No, you arent reading my post, take ecu "X" from car "A",fit it to car "B" - resynch to test. After test, remove ecu "X" and refit to car "A".
Why wont car "A" go ? The answer is it need a resynch with testbook or whatever.I'm not arguing about the code being in the EDC ecu - even Topix states that. But why the resynch ?

Any edc engine management can fitted to the diesels, as long as the edc code is entered into the becm

Nearly but not quite. Not all EDC ECU's are the same. ERR 6114 are for autos, ERR 6113 for manuals. The one on my car is MSB 106370 which has a different plug!

Yes I read that, it's curious, all the info I have suggests that should not be the case, but if you say that's what happens then it must be so. I have never had the opportunity to try it. There are several different EDC's because the pre EGR and post EGR units are different as well as the difference between auto and manual. The diagnostic module is different for early and late EDC's but not for manual/auto. I have a spare EDC for auto but it is non EGR so not compatable with my engine or I would have a play.

There's three different types of EDC ecu.
The early edc doesn't need a code. The err series, which is fitted to model years 1996 to 2000, hes a fixed code that needs programming into the becm.
The later MSB edc, fitted to the 1999 to 2002, with the mass air sensor,EGR, also has a fixed code that needs to be programmed into the becm.
These ecu's can be fitted to a trial vehicle but will need programming. Refitting them to the original vehicle requires no programming, so refitting is plug & play.

The bosch motronic ecu's are the same as the diesels, once the fixed code has been placed into the becm, the ecu can be removed & refitted without programming.

The only ecu that needs to be relearnt each time is the gems ecu. Any code can be placed into the becm, it's the gems that has to be programmed to the becm.
Auto or manual gearbox is not the ecu's problem. The gearbox is controlled by it's own ecu & controlled by the becm.

Some EDC ecu's have a different plug, I have altered my male plug slightly with a file & so therefore, can plug any of the EDC ecu's into our diesel loom, & start up.
