Dexron VI

Anyone used Dexron VI in a R380 Gearbox, local place that does gearbox rebuilds tips it in all there work?::scratching_chin:

Landrover stopped recommending ATF in favour of MTF94 a long time ago. But having looked at the spec of synthetic Dexron VI, it might be OK.

From a thread on R380 lube:
Ideally R380 lubricant should have the original 5W20 low viscosity of ATF fluids to give minimum gear drag. However, it's advantageous for it to be formulated only from fully synthetic base stocks since these will have a much higher lubricant film strength so as not to be squeezed out of those all important high pressure contact areas where wear might occur. This, and the low viscosity, has the added benefit of reducing friction which lowers transmission noise and improves economy.

Google didn't through much light on the subject, though I did find a South African thread in which someone was considering using it.

Only one way to find out - keep us posted...

Thank you Cutty i have been digging around a bit and Ashcroft transmissions (Ashcroft Transmissions - Revolution 1) sell there own now and to price wise between Dexron 6 and theres not a lot in it! (Gulf Dexron VI ATF automatic transmission fluid | ATF 1 Litre)
so i will be going with Ashcroft's i shall let you all know when the job is done!

I've been using Difflocks Evolution1:

Not cheap @ £18/L but in my opinion worth it. It's transformed my R380 - from cold, the usually notchy change from 2nd to 3rd just slips into place and reverse is now always found 1st try (no more dd clutching). Before using the Evo gear oil, the wife hated to drive the 110, now she's more than happy to drive. It also has the benefit of a long service life.

Edit: just checked out the price of Ashcrofts Rev1 gear oil @ £9/L it's worth ago.
