I take it you have tried a Land Rover dealer? Sometimes the bullet needs biting.
Or order one from advert?

Hey,

Yes I’ve tried one or two who didn’t seem to know what I was talking about, I accept it’s probably not a standard enquiry / request,

I’d just feel bad ripping out a perfectly
Good towbar to replace it with an aftermarket one if I can actually get an attachment which works.

will keep looking !

You'd need a 2 inch square receiver for that to work on your car. Which is American and I think Australia.

What about cutting the ball off your swan neck and having a plate professionally welded on to which your could bolt the tow ball of your choice.
I'd like to cut the ball and weld a plate on mine so I could lower the hitch height to suit my trailer. I'll get round to it one day.

Ah, I wondered about that (pick the vehicle up tomorrow). Is the UK one a round aperture ?

Confusingly the receiver has the same part number in both the U.K. US ANR2618.
Ok. Major surgery it is !

Not round, more rectangular, the swan neck has flat sides and rounded top & lower faces. I can't get the bolts out to remove mine.

What's the swan neck made of Keith? If its malleable cast you could have a problem.

I think I’m going to just bite the bullet and pop a witter flange towbar one instead. Not as elegant but will do what we need it to do.

Looks like steel to me but I'm no expert. If I ever manage to remove it, I'll take it to our local engineering shop and see what they say.

For the job it does its probably malleable cast, not so straightforward welding to steel, dissimilar metals and cooling times could lead to cracking, not what you want when towing . May need low hydrogen welding rods and a controlled cooling time. We used to weld cast granulator housings,used to take 14 hrs to warm thrm up 3 to 4 hours to weld, inch by inch to lessen the heat input and then up to 14 hours in a furnace to reduce the temperature slowly. There were still times however much care you took the join between the cast and the weld would crack.

Personally I Would change the hitch on the trailer.

Welding on any tow hitch is a bad idea.

There's a guy on the bay of E, who makes towbars. I got a replacement for the L322 from him (but I can't remember his name). Maybe have a search through and then contact him to see if he can custom make something?

It's not something I would attempt myself, I would rely on the engineering company to say yes or no. Otherwise I'd have a steel insert made to replace the swan neck, I only need it for my 4 wheel 750kg trailer. At the moment towing behind the P38 even at motorway height, all the weight is on the rear axle.

This is a swan neck. What we got in the EU.

This is the 2 inch receiver that they got in the US You'd be better off talking to someone in the US of A and see if they can get one shipped over to you. It'd cost a few squid, but I suspect it'd be the best way about it. Alternatively, pay a towbar manufacturer in the UK to fabricate one for you. Either way, it won't be cheap. Something newer from the JLR stable would've been cheaper as all you'd need is one of these.

Thanks folks,
Sorted now, gonna fit a witter flange and then a 2” ball on an adapter plate from Watling Engineering.
Feels a little wasteful but will do the job and not break the bank.
