Hiya

I just heard my freelander with the alarm on bleep twice

I went out there to check it and the remote key fob failed to work

Used the spare key fob, checked the fuse number 32

Tried pressing the remote with the car locked 5 x times as it said in the book in may loose its signal
Do I need to have the ignition on to resend the signal etc

I can't see all of a sudden both remotes going, also checked on a meter and the batteries have 3 v in them

Any ideas please

I've locked the car with the key by turning it twice, but does this lock it and put the alarm on the same as the key fob

Spent about an hour faffing around and know I'm being blonde as its most proberly staring me in the face

As you know I'm just abit paranoid at the moment

Thanks guys

Gary

Watch the red led on the dash. When the alarm is active it will flash once a second but just before the alarm is armed the light flashes fast for a few seconds. No flash would indicate the alarm is'nt active

Hi

Yep done that, the lights flashed quickly then slow and on the second turn of the key the indicators flashed

Still trying to get these dam keyfobs to work

Plus the rear window doesn't work when I hold the unlock button down, I useto work fine

Its all started from hearing 3 beeps, plus the car starts fine as well

Just hope they've failed but I can't see both of them going at the same time as they wernt touched when I heard the 3 bleeps go on the car

Just abit paranoid at the moment that's all, but know driving me nuts why I can't get the keyfobs to work or even resync them to the car

Hiya

Sorry guys to bother you again but this is driving me nuts

The remotes , both of them have packed up, so I can't see both of them giving up at the same time, so I assume they have lost there signal

Checked fuse 32 which is ok ,

Looked online and on here can't find anything, tried pressing the button quickly 5 times still nothing, cannot understand after the car was parked on the drive all locked up and alarm on I just heard 3 beeps, since then nothing with the remote

The alarm and doors lock with key, rear window doesn't go down anymore with the remote

Saw online about can recode using the key in the door a certain amount of times in different directions but wouldn't have a clue where to find this code and don't wish to screw it up anymore

I think though when I went out to the car I must have pressed the remote a few times whilst it was in my pocket as the indicators went off a few times, then when I got to the car and tried the remote there was nothing

So I wonder if this screwed it up

Any ideas would be really appreciated please spent all afternoon trying to work it out, tried everything in the owners manual

Do I need the car locked or unlocked with the key in , out in trying to resync

Thks as always

Gary

Try disconnecting the battery for a while to see if it resets the ecu.
The fannying about turning the key in the lock is the EKA code and is only used on early cars with the Rover alarm/immobiliser not the seperate alarm and BMW immobiliser.

Hi

Thanks for that plus didn't realise about the door lock unlock is for rovers etc

Mine does have the bmw engine 2002 3 door freelander auto

Is driving me nuts of how it can sudden go in an instant

Will see if the battery trick works tommorow, I wonder if the 3 beeps was warning me of a problem or low battery in the key fob

I know I also need 2 x new central locking solonoid motors as they went a few months ago, first the drivers then the passengers

Heard they are pigs to change

I've had a look and they seem to be around 100 pound each

Thks again

Gary

BMW immobilisers were fitted to all engine variants, not sure from what year though, probably 2001, You can tell by the key, bulbous key is BMW, folding key is Rover.

When you say you heard it beep do you mean from outside the car while it was locked?? Did its horns make this sound??

If you have a low battery in the keyfob, the car will tell you when you unlock with keyfob and open the drivers door, you will hear a beeping sound accompanied with a flashing of the LED at the same rate as the beeps. It'll do this for about 10secs or untill you put the keys in the ignition.

Hi

Mines the bmw one then, the inside of my key fob says lucas

May I ask if tommorow I leave the battery off for 15 mins it still doesn't work what else could it be please

Just so I can try a few things

It also says in the book about resetting the keyfob by pressing the button 5 x times but not sure and doesn't say if the car needs to be locked or unlocked , but like you say if I take off the battery lead will reset the ecu

I hope I don't have to go down the road by buying new key fobs etc and getting them reprogrammed

Hopefully it will be ok as I want to get new central locking motors first but really dreading doing them

Pain in the arse when having to muck around in the dark and rain

Thks again and will see if pulling off the battery lead works

I heard the noise from outside of the car, it was parked on the drive all locked up and alarmed , I was sitting indoord when I heard it, it did only beep 3 times and didn't seem to sound like the horn more of a chirp if that makes sense

But when I went out I must have pressed the button a few times as the key was in my pocket and heard it locking and unlocking, then when I went to use the key fob nothing

Unlocked it with the key and it started fine, the lights on the dash were flashing but no beep

But I replaced the key fob battery from one I had but then realised it wasn't new, will go down to halfords tommorow and buy 2 x new ones

It also says in the book about resetting the keyfob by pressing the button 5 x times but not sure and doesn't say if the car needs to be locked or unlocked ,

am fairly sure .. that when i changed the fob battery .. ( recently )
i went to the car .. which were locked with alarm activated ..
stood right in front .. pointed fob at the front ..
'n did the 5 quick fob press routine ..
heard a noise from engine compartment .. like a short buzz or similar

then went and unlocked the car as per usual

( i.e. no need for key in ignition etc .. )

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I've locked the car with the key by turning it twice, but does this lock it and put the alarm on the same as the key fob
with using the key .. ( and not the fob )
it locks the car .. turns on alarm ..
But .. does Not turn on the interior movement sensor
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I was sitting indoord when I heard it, it did only beep 3 times and didn't seem to sound like the horn more of a chirp if that makes sense

had similar rare occurrences with mine .. when the fob battery were low ..
then .. and while .. i started to just use the key to lock it ..

no strange beeps 'n whatnot since i changed the fob battery

~~~~~~~
car alarm once went off in the summer .. after i left a window slightly open .. or sun panel ..
think it was a flying insect that flew in and set off the interior sensor ..
and/or the wind rustling an acoustic 'curtain' i've got over the loadspace cage ( hippo 'van' )
Hiya
I've made some progress with my key fobs
Replaced both batteries in my key fobs, tried everything with my original one to no availm
Got my other spare one out and also got the spare key out as well, managed to get that one to resynch thank god, so now it has proved the first key fob is faulty
Does anyone know if the keyfobs can be repaired please or do they have to be replaced, the local dealer wants 160 for a new one which I think is well over the odds
Have looked online and noticed there are companies that will send out a re programming chip that you plug into your diagnostic socket and then send back the re programming unit
I'm really worried about doing this as they will then have my key code and not happy about that
Was wondering if anyone could recommend a company that they've used please,
Am just very cautious when it comes to who I habd my keys over to
Does anyone know what part goes wrong on these key fobs please
Supposing I bought a new circuit board for my key fob I assume I would need a programming unit in order for it to work otherwise it could open anything
Thanks in advanced
Gary
