Hi

I cannot switch my diahasu engine off ,the key does nothing and comes out...

Since it uses no electrics to keep it running how can I make something to stop it....?

Or am I been thick...?

ooohhhh....a runaway diesel!!!! Does it have a fuel cut off on the pump? After you get it shut down you should either find it or put one on.

On our Macks we pull the ground wire off of the frame....it breaks continuity to every electrical part and kills the engine. Probably will not work if you have a mechanical lift pump??

You will have a fuel shut off solenoid on the pump, chances are that this has jammed, or is still being fed electricity (dodgey relay).

I would look at the IP, and pull the wire off when its running, if it keeps running then unbolt the solenoid and check that the pluger moves freely and that the spings etc are ok.

Is so then it could be running on oil, is it loosing oil? Black smoke?

Cheers disco but I hav`nt seen any wires going anywhere near the pump etc.....But I will look again.....

I thought that diesel's didn't need electricity to keep running, because the diesel explodes on compression as opposed to ignition, hence the reason why you don't need sparking plugs, and the reason why diesels are better waders provided you don't cut of the air supply.

They do if they have an electronic fuel pump. All of the new engines have been designed with electronic pumps so they can be shut down. I have never heard of a diesel running off of sump oil, but then again; we tend to build our engines so they don't leak oil everywhere:rolleyes:

the older ones dont need any electric. esp with a mechanical fuel pump
newer ones have either an electric fuel pump and or an electric solonoid on the IP. in which case if you pull the main earth lead off itll stop.

quickest way is to put it against a wall and let the clutch out in 4th/top.

Ah yes, but I was thinking of "proper" diesel engines since this is a Series forum, i.e. ones which don't have namby-pamby electronics

and thur wur me thinking mother nature invented peanut oil and just abart every other oil out there. now we know of one thing the yanks have invented
hold on didn't they invent friendly fire?

12.... mother nature did not invent any refined oil..... its like saying mother nature invented telephone poles, or demensional lumber.... I believe it was George Washinton Carver who extracted the first oils from peanuts, he also invented peanut butter and soy oil.... and he was an American.
