88' defender which has had a 300tdi conversion at some point. I've replaced the bulkhead and now trying to re-wiring it all back up.

Issue 1 - i have no idea if its the original, or a 300tdi harness
Issue 2 - there are some wacky splices all over the place making life that bit more interesting - see this as an example!

Issue 3 - my sticky labels have all faded as my timescale for the job was drastically wrong!

Can anybody please help with the following questions.

1) Behind my instruments, i have these three unaccounted for. Are these spares incase i want to add a third display (currently blanked)?

2) I have everything 'dry fitted' just now, but have these two blocks spare. What are they for? Would they be surplus for me?

3) In the bundle that goes to my ignition switch, there is a white with orange cable which goes to a relay. The opposite side has black wires that have been cut (that i am holding), but the other part to the relay has nothing. there! I have had a look at various wiring diagrams for the ignition switch, but cannot see colours that match my set up and cannot work out what this orange and white and relay is for. Any ideas?

4) The fuse box area was a total mess - there seems to be two styles of fuse blocks and they were all rammed in behind the metal plate. Again, all butchered! I want to tidy this up, so any suggestions on what to do as i don't know if this is original, or from the conversion? I.e. buy a 300tdi fuse box, or a 2.5NA? Or start from the beginning?

Hi

Does indeed look a right mess and been there when others have added wires

In the past when a loom as been a hodgepodge I’ve taken the entire loom out, laid it on the ground and gone through it one by one, mainly to ensure it’s ok and nothing is burnt , cut the loom open and removed extra wires

Also had to build all new looms as well

Know that’s not much help to u but indeed have to ensure the loom is 100% sound to ensure it’s safe

Have u tried posting over in the defender section , as at least there be able to advise u what the best course of action is , out of curiosity would a new loom be very expensive

I considered a new loom...until i saw the price of them!
I then went down the route of laying it out and trying to chase the wires, but again, never got very far.

Given that it all worked before, and hook up just took a couple hours today, i am hoping this fault finding is easy.

Anybody got any thoughts on the wires still to identify?
