I did search before asking this by the way but couldnt find the exact answer
Ok sorted a bit of rust under my windscreen the toher day and the new seal has come. Its a gash bit of foam in a blue packet.
I cleaned up the old seal (a solid rubber thingy) and its not to bad, still flexy and pliable.
I also removed 1565859kg of sikaflex from the bottom of the windscreen that the army slapped in.
Now dry assembling it all. The new foam is thinner than the seal that came off and compresses a fair bit. The older rubber one fills the gap but due to previous welding and repairs to the top of the bulkhead it isnt entirely smooth etc where it sits on the metal - there are visible small voids/gaps.
Can I do the following.....
1. seal the seam at the back of the windscreen/bulkhead bit with silicon
2. place the britpart foam seal on the locating pegs and stick it down with the double sided tape
3. place the original rubber seal over the top
4. silicon bead on top of the old rubber seal and around the locating pegs
5. flip windscreen up and tighten it down.
When i dry assembled this the foam seal seemed to squash down nicely and absorb the bumps and irregularities in the lower bit of the seal area, the old seal then squashes it more and seals well between itself and the britpart item. silicon just for a belt and braces approach.
The screen seemed to clamp down ok and i was able to get the hood stick bolt holes to line up - i only did the screen bolts finger tight whilst pulling on the screen, i can prob get it to tighten a few turns further.
Does this sound reasonable or should i leave out one or other seals or what?
Ed
