Presently my Landy leaks terribly, more than would be deemed acceptable by and Land Rover owner.

The main problem areas are the passenger side door seal where the windscreen and bulkhead meet, which I have just replaced with some additional dumdum (will have to see if i've done enough to cure that).
Also somewhere around the top of the windscreen, it will run down the front pillar when driving off, and the last time it rained heavily and it was parked up on the level I had it running through the fuse box and everything.

Before I bought the car it had been converted to a hard top, and silicon applied on the front between the windscreen frame and roof.

When I changed it back to a pickup (in a rush) I didn't really give this area the attention it needed.

I have got a new seal to fit between the roof and frame (I gather it is a pain to clip to the roof) but need some advice on what compound to apply, and when to apply between the roof and windscreen frame on the front face?

I have plenty of dumdum left but am not sure this is what LR use for this.
Any advice would be much appreciated, I might even get started on this today (day off!).

As a temp measure... park it facing up hill. How does the lower seal look on the windscreen? Is the windscreen rubber perished? You may be leaking in more than one place..There is another 2 seals as well.... will take a look as I replied to a thread a few months back. I used Tiger Seal and when tightening it all back down, I did the corners first and then the rest just tightish.... then repeated for that final half turn.

Thanks for the reply.

The other thread was helpful, and having looked on Microcat I recon I need to get a couple more seals for the roof (only having the large inner seal).

Unfortunately it leaks worst when facing uphill, facing downhill seems to stop all but the door seal leak, which is hopefully sorted now.

The windscreen seal is perishing, but the worst cracks on the top face I have stuck some dumdum in. As for the windscreen/bulkhead seal, I dont know what to make of that, its all intact but what it is made of and the condition of the material i'm not sure!

The bulkhead to lower windscreen seal (if I remember rightly) has a peel off tape on it and at least one sticky side. Its a waterproof sponge type material... maybe an idea while you are at it to replace it. After 20yrs its likely to have gone brittle.... its another one to tick off if it still leaks.

having thought about it i'm planning to replace the bottom w/screen/bulkhead seal as well.
It rained today and the new door passenger seal + dumdum has stopped the leak on the nearside front corner, which is good as the bulkhead was suffering.

Unfortunately problems persist on both sides at the back of the doors, where the cab meets the body. The gaps around the body cappings are letting water in, and have proved very difficult to plug up with sealant.

When I have to roof off I will probably remove the cab as well and look at applying some more dumdum around each end before refitting.

I also have an idea about arranging the seals on the roof/windscreen and will put up a couple of photos for info (if it works out) when i'm off next week and have a go at it all.

The other problem i've got is a kink in the door seal where the lower body curves, I read about pulling the seal tight when fitting, but given it has metal in it this makies it somewhat inflexible and this doesn't seem to work. With the kink in the seal this again allows some water to get in between the seal and the door, and when the door is open the water runs down the outside, hits the kink and is diverted to the inside edge of the door seal :(

I know some leaks are to be expected, but i'm eager to reduce ingress as much as possible before the autumn/winter really sets in, and its always damp, steams up and never drys out!

I finally got round to removing the roof and cab today.

I'm now removing layers of silicone and other junk from around the windscreen panel and the roof, having a quick break to go for a spin without the roof on which was fun.

It looks like some seriously nasty stuff was used on the far outside between the roof and windscreen (probably original), its white, and extremely unhappy about me trying to remove the remains of it from the roof.

I'll post a couple of pics at some point, it might help anyone else who changes their roof etc, although i remain a bit puzzled by it myself.

As for the windscreen seal i'm not sure if I will bother with that now, i'm being kept busy as it is!
