Ordered my mud centre console.....
I just need to sell my other kidney and get a pyro gauge, boost gauge and oil pressure too
Gonna fit a digi read out battery gauge as I feel it's easy to read than guess a pointer/dial type, seeing 12.85v etc is much simpler me thinks, plus I can only get 3 gauges in the mud pod
Perhaps I'm suffering from a gauge fetish
Shhhhh

Hello everyone, just joined the forum and can't wait to get started

I'm running a defender 300 tdi with a very successful Tdci bulkhead and dash and still have a manual gearbox
I've met lots of people who tried and gave up or fitted an auto to clear the dash but I offer hope
Anyone interested?
Ta
Yes I would be interested you still doing these ?

More pics as requested
Here's the centre console too

I made a sank alloy centre plate to allow the cubby fridge to fit the seat box and just modded seatbox leading edge and Tdci tunnel
Before ya ask the disco 3 hi lo lever does nowt not does the hdc button but I plan to either fit blanks or turn them into other switches

Once I get the rear vent ducts tapped into dash I'll have rear vents for the kids too

To be fair I like the old tdi and td5 dash but the heater is truly brilliant with the Tdci bulkhead and it's rarely used at full heat

I was lucky and won a 2010 bulkhead for £400 which considering my old bulkhead was knackered was a bargain
At least if you know where you stand you can decide whether it's worthwhile a job to do
Hi there, i'm also want to buid it with the cubby fridge from a disco3
i wonder how you did i with the gearsticks that's where i stopped for a while to look after options, and yours i like very much
my engine is also a 300tdi with a new chassis new bulckhead from a tdci the engine is already instaled my gearbox is a r380
and now the gearsticks,....... how did you manage it, it looks like the gearlever is a little futher behind than normal?
i have a facebookaccount under Mad Max Landrover and you also can contact me at ;[email protected]
very much regards

ive just made a new selector housing and moved my stick back 100mm ,,now just need to make a hi lo selector and diff lock ,,but thats the easy bit ,,,lol

cheers mark ,,im hoping to use a tdci 6 speed hi lo leaver has its more compact ,got a new one cheep off ebay will load some more pics of selector as soon as i can some pics on thread ive called r380 into tdci search my posted threads for a link

hi could anyone tell me what thickness black plastic they used please and do you use black gloss or matt ,i have a 110 that was a v8 that now has a 300 tdi disco lump and box with a modified gear stick so i didn't have to butcher the seat box and a tdci bulkhead and dash with the tdci wiring minus ecu and a v8 back harness then thats joined to a td5 light loom at the back a bit a mish mash but it works been having issues with some of the lights on dash obviously ecu has to make them work or canbus which i dont have but keeping all the tdci harness stuff just gonna pull the wires that arnt used at the end out of the harness tidy it all up when done its gonna be a spectre looking thing with modded front winch bumper external cage svx seats etc which i found for £350.00 if anyone's interested.also the spotlights used on spectre model are a fortune ive found some cheap ones just as good for a fraction of the price along with cheap led headlights for about £40.00 for the pair.

I brought some 6mm carbon fibre effect off fleabay not cut yet, waiting for speedo to come back. if it's wobbly ima just use some 4mm ally and paint black. Tip if you want to make td5 clocks look newer and match the new dash better I drilled out the green bulb surround for the dash lights which make it way brighter then you can replace the bulb with led colour of choosing.

i ordered 3mm black gloss and its spot on just had to order a 52mm hole saw got every size but that one typical ref bulbs will sort leds out not sure how i wired td5 clocks up so i was just gonna run a speedo cable direct to box with some 200 tdi clocks i have ive got td5 ones too just not sure, ive got a disco box with sender already in if anyone knows how to make that work with td5 clocks, mine is a propper Frankenstein's monster, tried the speedo from td5 box no good dont fit so put 300 disco one back in for now .

It's really easy to adapt td5 clocks. You can't use td5 disco transfer box the speedo works diffirent, you need a defender tbox or 200/300tdi disco one works too. Then where you fit a cable you fit a transducer. You run a 3 core from there to clocks. You also need to modify the clock loom slightly to adapt it to work for 300 tdi senders. The adapted loom can be brought or you can easily modify the td5 clock loom. Or make a loom. You basically need to re route a couple of wires through the speedo which changes the values to work with tdi senders. The very latest tdi came with td5 clocks and this mod. If you search retro anaconda I think it was there's a guide to fit them. Worth fitting as the warning lights are way better and bulbs don't go and everything is alot easier to see/brighter. Speedo is better too. There's a guy on another LR forum who can change speedo reading for you on a digital td5 one for like 20 quid too.

cheers for info the gearbox i have in is a 300 tdi disco so have the sender unit got td5 clocks too will have a look at making a harness dont know if i should just pull the whole tdci harness out and put a td5 in i have 3 diffrent harnesses spliced together to make it all work but still in process of sorting it i will have a look at that anaconda thing see what i can come up with i didnt think it would be too complicated just had my alternator go on me too vehicles been in process of build for 3 years so everything i have done is starting to rust again going round inc circles with it lol but want to make everything rite, been trying to find somone to make an external cage they start off cheap then start taking the urine so i havnt bothered yet but its something i need to do to get the look of the vehicle rite.

I used a disco 300 gearbox to clear dash my old defender v8 tbox as it's same ratio as a disco one anyway no point swapping and had right handbreak bits
Then brought a transducer off eBay 30 quid I think. I used a td5 loom so it had the wiring in for the transducer just plugged in. If you have diff loom I'd just use some 3 core flex if I was you its double insulated work fine just run up to dash.
I left the tdci bulkhead wiring as is and spliced the lights into that to match into the td5 harness. All you need to match is lights and senders. Since you using td5 clocks you don't need to match most of it into the tdci wiring just leave it as is. I lopped off the connector from the clock harness did the wiring mods then ran new cables in flex for the guages in the engine bay alternator/bat warning temp guages etc I had to make a new glowplug wiring loom with proper guage automotive wire and used flexi con to protect it as the loom I had was mess was easier to make own added some dead switches for stop solenoid etc to make harder for thieves central locking if you putting in its easier to use a kit rarther than try use tdci wiring as no ecu etc. Use tdci wiring for leccy windows it's just the supplies erm
Gana do tracker and alarm system too when get round to it. There's a guide on here to mod safari door lock to work on central locking too. Ref supplies for the clocks I did use the clock supply for tdci and spliced into new connector. Bit make it up as you go like. Trouble I had was with all diff bits of looms getting right colours and wires to right places as age gaps like 25 years for some parts. Still got tons to do before send off for painting lol

i know the feeling done central locking disconnected door lock disconnected internal lock buttons too and making plates to go over door locks on inside so only way anyone is getting in is through windows when they smash them, ive got a solenoid on the full line as ive piped it all with 8mm truck airline pipe using compressing fittings on the feed side and push fittings on the return much neater,my harnes is mental gonna fine and trace wires in tdci harness back to were they start then use them as they are already there it help i used to be a sparky and fit car alarms etc,i am also going to add a second alternator and second batt with 100amp relay between the two bats in case main one is ever flat and charge both when driving.got heated seat kit and spectre svx style seats going in too the money you can chuck at these things is mental, wont mention any more about security but lets just say micro dots on everything and some other security measures,i was thinking about wiring a shotgun shell under the seat to go off inside when naughty boys tried to pinch it but opted for a more electrifying experience instead pmsl,i am trying to find an external cage supplier who can make a spectre style cage but using cheap pipe instead of tube as it is purely cosmetic as this landy wont ever see the dirty stuff ,also need some wheels want big aggressive but road practical ive got some boosts and other alloys but want something a bit special to give presence like the spectre one.

I know what you mean about chucking money at it. Like I'm doing heated seats too and the extra you have to pay for the LR tdci switches rather than plain rockers is ridiculous! All the little things really add up. I thought about a split battery system abit like what I have on my van has a battery guard thing on it. What did you do for gear tunnel if tdci bulk and guessing disco r380 box same as mine? What you planning for gear gaitors and center console? Still after ideas for that bit
I'm thinking a D2 style console maybe extend gear lever a bit see how fits

ive made my own gearstick so i dont have to butcher the seat box removed the gaiter from it and the surrounding ally thing and gonna put a gaitor direct to were the ally box thing fitted then another guater on top of that mod the tdci tunnel bit with glass fibre or what ever resins and stuff i have laying about may even use ally sheet not sure,i am going to make centre console similar to original but it will house my 12 switches for all my toys ref switches not sure if td5 ones fit into tdci when i get time will go rob them out of my td5 as it dont have leccy windows anymore they got robbed out of it before i bought it but switches still there.
either way i will be able to make any switch work logically ive got some 300 tdi disco ones might use them.ive bought plether from ebay with checkers stamped in it to match my svx seats and once ive made cubby box will use that [used to make sub boxes and door mounts for speakers in younger days] hence i should be able to get a simple cubby box made with two levels and a very high thick padded arm rest.
Every time i get close to sorting something out i find something else to do prob have it done in another couple of years got a td5 double cab to strip and galv and a 300 tdi ex army to do aswell not enough hours in the day when your working outside doing everything cold cold cold i will be retired by time i get any of them sorted and they will prob be worth a bit more than they are now hopefully especially when they are blasted and galved [leeds galvanizing they are brilliant i must say ] had mine delivered back to me in a week they picked it up from blasters and delivered back to my house.
just bought a twenty inch light bar couldn't believe how cheap 15 quid seriously and its a proper thing too, love the led stuff no more massive cables and relays well maybe still relays but they dont draw too much current ,also anyone get there hands on an xr2 i alternator they fit straight to ya landy only have to drill one set of threads out just for ref for anyone they are 90 amp found one been sitting in my garage for about 20 years put it on worked first time couldnt believe it lol .

I know what you mean start all these things just getting around to finishing them! Wish I had enough room to have as many projects as you haha

i could do with more room my dad has a backyard over 100 mtrs long and about 30 wide give or take but he wont let me put a big garage on it boo hoo so stuck in a little tiny garage with my gear and working outside in the cold, had issues with fuel lines other day leaking so i got some 8mm plumbing fittings 8mm plastic pipe and some furrels for the pipe sorted leaks now have compressing fittings direct the diesel pump mounted to the block.also modified a expansion tank header cap with a cheap float switch off ebay few quid mounted it direct into the cap bit resin washers etc i now have a low water level switch so if i loose too much water float goes down and kicks the leccy fan in straight away even if there is still water in system fan will run till it gets topped up as an emergency backup to cool engine this willl work in conjunction with a sensor on top of the block to switch the cooling fan on if it also gets too hot not taking any chance with this block its a good one.
had a boat load of fine again tracing wires on the tdci harness and making them work with 300 tdi bits ,ordered some warning leds for the dash i am making so rather than use defender warning light pod i am gonna wire rows of leds with individual symbols think it will look better in custom dashboard all on ebay from china couple of quid each but should look the part in tdci dashboard with standard clocks mounted in it.
anyone thinking about buying led kit why not buy all white indicators from paddock then simply buy led bulbs and put them in and buy flasher relay done it to mine they look mint also bought round clear fog light and reverse light both with leds bulbs too they are penny's from china just a though guys trust me they look good and keep the original feel of the lights with a modern update as they are all white and clear.

Water float is a good idea. I used a td5 warning light system, could easily add it into one of the spare lights in that though
Are you putting boost guage or egt guage in? I think I'm going to so I can tune it without worrying about melting anything
Which lights did you use? I was gana use the rdx ones all clear with plinths. 200 for a set though not cheap. You're using the 300 clocks? I'm just adjusting td5 ones to go in the tdci slot. Gana try and drill out the light bits in the guages and fit blue led'
So looks more modern
Need to send off speedo to get the mileage zeroed
Dunno whether to fit a leccy fan or not. Still got the viscous but no cowling.
