Evening all,

Ran into a bit of an issue with my Defender TD5 110 CSW. The model year is 2000 and I have checked the engine code and found it to be 10P.

Truck has been down on power for a bit, had it into an indy specialist as it has been using coolant and I suspected a head gasket based on the reputation of the 10P. However, Indy has a look over and reported back that my Radiator was leaking and the power was likely down to the MAF sensor. Had a look at the Rad and confirmed that it was leaking. Cleaned the MAF with some contact cleaner and put everything back together. Probably did another 5-600 miles like this, topping up the coolant each trip as I haven't had time to swap the rad.

This weekend was on a 70 miles round trip when the fuel pump started making an absolute racket, high pitched squealing sound which was coming from the fuel pump. Turned the car off when I reached my destination and it struggled to start when it was time to leave. Managed to get home fine but the whole time the fuel pump was screaming away.

Cut to Monday morning and I can't get the truck to fire, turns over fine but nothing. Left it until today (4 days) and after much cranking, she fired up and idled fine.

However, whenever I touch the throttle the engine stumbles and heaps of white smoke comes out the exhaust.

I have purchased a replacement fuel pump, fuel filter housing with air bleed valve and non-return (including the duckbill), and injector seals.

The white smoke is concerning as it feels like this could be the head gasket. I am sure this will be a fairly obvious problem to someone far more knowledgeable than I.

Any suggestions? I would love to hear them,

S.

I ended up solving this, rather embarrassingly I had filled the car with a bit of petrol. Due to the different densities, I was obviously running on diesel for a while. Changed the fuel pump, fuel filter oil and oil filter and have subsequently done about 20k miles since!

I hate when you find forum posts with no conclusion. YEs I was very surprised that I didn't blow the thing up, but I must have had a lot of Diesel in the tank!
