Can somebody tell me how the steering box is lubricated.
Is it the power steering fluid that does it, or is there a separate resevoir in the steering box that needs to be checked?
I looked online but was unable to figure it out, most threads are about leaks in Discovery power steering, even if you put "Defender" in the search.
So l have tried!

The reason l ask is that my 110 steering does not self centre as well as the missus's 90, and it's worse on left turns.
I've had the swivel bearings replaced and preload done, and replaced the steering damper.

the oil in the system lubricates the box ,its full of pressurised oil when working, defender and disco boxes are the same box

Do both have RTC steering dampers? Just incase that makes one feel different. You can also adjust the box if I recall, using a screw driver on the shaft preloaded it to take out play but also makes it stiffer at certain places

There's no RTC steering damper, self centering is OK at higher speeds but turning corners at low speed you need to wind the steering wheel back straight, as l said more so on left turns.
The steering damper is a fairly new Britpart one, l will disconnect it and see what difference that makes.
I know that Defender steering is not like a car, but it's more the fact that it is better when turning right.
I was considering fitting a Terrafirma RTC steering damper.
