Hello,

As my posting of several new threads probably shows, I am a beginner when it comes to Defenders.

I picked up the car yesterday and everything seems to be OK. Or as OK as can be expected for a 13 year old Defender.

It's a 2004 TD5 Hardtop (left hand drive).

I have a question regarding an oil leak at the back of the engine. In front of the air filter housing and coolant header tank.

I have attached a couple of photos.

What do you think could be causing this?

Also, what are the plastic hooks? There are 3 of them.

Thanks.

Plastic hooks are the breather pipes for the gearbox, transfer box and axles.

The leak isnt much of a worry, though you could change the rocker cover gasket, genuine or Elring only.

if you change the cover gasket get 13 x genuine ERR7266 grommets too cos they wear out in time and in most cases only the gasket alone won't stop the leak completely but together with these will be dry like a bone for many years

good call mate on the grommets
I ended up forgetting to purchase the rubber grommets as mine was well over crushed
so I ended up making my own using a conveyor belt that was laying around at work.... I punched out using wad punches
