Hi there people

I’m always on the bay looking at landys and notice some defender td5s have such low mileage, I wondered if many have been tampered with as such to show less miles every year than they are actually doing?

All the best you lot

There isn’t much point in tampering like that. You can get TD5 speedos “adjusted” for around £100, so it’s hardly worth it. If someone really wanted to, disconnecting the speedo transducer is a 30second job, so they could disconnect it for some time to show less miles, but they would lose the road speed displayed too.

I was once told "maintenance over mileage" when buying a vehicle. Mileage is only one factor when it comes to buying, how has it been driven ? A low mileage car driven 2 miles a day, never warming up, is probably a worse bet than a car driven a lot in 5th (or 6th now) gear that is well maintained.

Unlike ordinary cars, with a defender its all about condition especially the underside, low mileage is nice but defo not at the top of the list.
