Hi all
My wife went out today to jump start a friends car, our TD5 running fine she puts the jump leads on, accidently shorts out the positive , the engine dies, when you now turn on the ignition the fuel pump relay buzzes like its going crazy, it turns over fine but does not start, i have changed the relay its fine so i shorted pin 30 to 87 on the relay plug which should set the fuel pump to permanant pump, still nothing just wondered if it had been heard of before?

Cheers Taf

The fuel pump will be fine. It sounds like the immobiliser sensed the short as a disconnect and has partially set itself.

I'd try a reset of the ECU.
before you do this make sure you have any radio codes to hand as you will need to enter them.

You need to turn the key to pos II (until the dash lights come on) then turn it off again and disconnect the batt +ve cable within 15 seconds. Make sure you dont have any other +ve feeds coming from the battery that could still back feed the ECU. Ignore your alarm (if you have one) that will sound for 30 seconds or so using its own battery.
Wait for a minute or two then reconnect the battery +ve cable. Turn the key and see what happens.

Good luck.
