Defender TD5 ECU issue

If you are still getting the crank position sensor noisy DTC then that is probably the issue. You seem to have covered the bases, so all I can suggest is going over the wiring again to see if there is a dodgy connection somewhere. I rewired the crank position sensor on my son's D90 recently and am still occasionally getting a crank signal high fault. What wire did you use?

I used some foil shielded twin core cable... does it need to be twisted pair?
 
How did you get the foil to stand up to being crimped into a terminal? I would have thought such a connection would fail very quickly under vibration. I think the screen needs to be more like that in coaxial cable, a wire mesh that can be twisted into a usable and long lasting connection. I used this stuff, but the gauge is thinner than the original. Wiser heads than mine suggest that the thin gauge is not a problem, but if you come across some that is thicker let me know and I might swap.

Sorry my bad explanation
The cable is 2 pair cable shielded with a foil and then stranded outer shield ,which I soldered to pin 16
 
Understood. In that case if the DTC is still current, then either there is a flaw in the sensor, the connections or the wire, or there is something else interfering with the signal. The guru around here on anything electrical is sierrafery; he might have more suggestions.
 
Odd, it works fine for me. The Link is to the map showing the locations of LandyZone members willing to offer help. It lists members by location and shows what they can offer - tools, recovery, diagnostics, tea etc. It is in the section called International Rescue.
