My TD5 has "ALWAYS" started first turn of the key but last night if cranked over but did not start, I was in a hurry to be some where and it was raining heavy so I left it and used my Volvo.
It has been p#ssing down all day so did not venture out until 5pm today to look at it which gave me time to ponder what the cause could be. Obvious thought being the crank position sensor as fuel pump was heard running and it has just had a new fuel filter, I then wondered if it could be the inertia fuel switch, as that is the easiest thing to check I pressed the button in and felt a slight click, I turned the key and it started instantly.
Now why would the inertia switch have tripped, the only thing I can think of is yesterday I checked the oil level and closed the bonnet but never drove it until trying to start it last night, I wonder if closing the bonnet tripped it.
Anyway it was a quick fix so thought I would post it on here as a first step to try if anyone else has a crank but no start problem, any other thoughts on why it tripped.
