Hiya, hope everyone is having a good summer!

I am having issues with the central locking and would love any tips to try rectify it...

The drivers door was locking and unlocking by itself every time I opened the drivers door. After reading posts etc.. I lubed all the working parts up and this seemed to fix there issue!

BUT now the central locking will work using the fob but not when I lock or unlock with the key or door button. Which is an issue when I need to leave the dog inside...

Any help as always appreciated
Thanks

Must admit I'm not aware of the CL installation but in normal CL mechanisms there is a link rod that goes between the physical lock barrel and the actuator, when you use the key it moves the rod which moves the actuator output enough for a switch in the actuator to make (or break). That signal is sent to the control unit which unlocks all doors. It sounds like you have an issue with whatever links the lock barrel to the actuator

Thank you for the reply kwakerman. I checked the actuator and the rod is fine but the idea about the switch makes a lot of sense. I did open the actuator and located the switch and visually it looked ok but doesn't mean it's not broken!

Is here anyway to check if it works to save buying a whole new actuator?

I would guess that the switch contacts are ok as that is what tells the ecu whether the locks are open or closed. If you had an issue with the switches I would either expect the lock to continuously lock or unlock or cycle between lock/unlock. As the actuator appears to be operating correctly using the fob that tends to make me think it is ok. Just another thought is this a factory CL or an aftermarket kit?

Just had a look at a TD5 wiring diagram and I cant see CL on there so there is the chance it is aftermarket. Did it look like an add-on when you were playing with it?

Not sure what the OP 's MY is, but the 2002 MY shows CL on the electrical diagrams.

Cheers

Pretty sure it was factory fitted as it is a post 2002 defender and apparently they were fitted with CL.

The locks were cycling lock/unlock but after a bit of wd40 that stopped but now the key in lock wont activate the CL...

I could try another actuator but at £50 want to try a few other options.

Kwakerman I like the idea of less electrics on a defender! Would make life easier

Ask Neilly nicely if he has an electronic copy of the wiring diagram or a link to where it is, even if you are not knowledgeable in the way of the electron you may have mates who are. Long distance fault finding can be quite difficult over Tinternet

Did you spray WD into the actuator or just the mechanical linkages? Its an oil and can muck some electrics up, ideally use a good contact cleaner spray in future if it is an electrics related issue (may be worth a go if your actuator is dripping in WD)
