Defender TD5 breather blockout

Hi guys I'm looking to increase performance with a few minor modifications. Saw someone block off their breather pipe so the engine only gets fresh air. Will this help? Is it safe? What is the right way to do it?

Also seen the wastegate rod being extended for more boost? Not shure about how this will effect the reliability of the engine.

Would appreciate any help

Do you mean the EGR valve? Blocking the breather pipe on the top of the engine would only do bad things.

Check maf, map and aap sensors, turbo hoses for delamination and check for oil in red ecu plug.

Don't mess with the wastegate rod, EGR delete, decat downpipe, thorough service and a remap.

Saw some guy on youtube just pull out the breather pipe that runs from the top to the intake and closed off the breather on the intake side. Then said it made a massive difference to his disco's performance.
I have done the remap, the EGR is blocked out, center silencer removed (With slightly thinner pipe than standard) but I feel it should be pulling a bit better. Would it make a big difference if i replace the thinner pipe with a bigger pipe?
I will have a look at the sensors and plug tomorrow when servicing.

I'd be more inclined to know the engine is running well in standard trim first. If you have to ask about blocking 'a' breather pipe you probably shouldn't be tweaking the boost without speaking to a tuning company. I wouldn't touch it personally

OK, just wondered why you advised against it. I would hope whoever did his tune for hiim also made sure all was working OK and set the wastegate rod length to the best possible setting.

If you just want a bit more poke then a stage 1 remap would be enough imo. After going through everything else that can cause a td5 to run a bit shìt ;)
 
Im always looking to better my defender every way i can. Was just curious about this. But i will be replacing the pipe welded in at the silencer with a bigger one and see what happens.
 
The systems designed to burn that oil mist off through the intake. If the breathers producing a load of shìte youve got underlying problems i would imagine. I understand the theory behind him doing it but I don't think it's a must do thing. As far as just venting to atmosphere goes, that's a bit ****. I think the provent catch cans are popular mods and worth looking into if you want to do it.

Okay makes sense. Also cant think that it would be a good idea to leave the pipe open. Have not heard of the catch can mod but will be looking into it.
