Hi - recently fitted the battery and connected the terminals the wrong way round.Having ched the fuses the only casualty seemed to be one if the fuses under the seat.Later I discoved the alternaor was not work'
Could somene advise if the alternator is wired by a realy-I have checked several sites and not found any mention of an alternator relay?

Your alternator should be wired directly to the battery via the live terminal on the starter motor, i.e. the terminal the main red battery cable attaches to.
I'm not certain, but with a bit of luck there will be a fusable link in the engine compartment ( or more likely under the front seats ), but there won't be a relay.
