Worth checking the little UJs on the steering between steering wheel and steering box also.hope you find the problem!
As crowmann was saying they certainly do creep up on you!
Well reminded - part of the steering play was in one of the steering column joints - In my case bottom one pretty much shot. Changed them both along with the track rod end and the panhard bushes (bust a fabulous vice in the process and bought a 6 ton press of eBay that was useless but that's another story) end result Daisy steers and stops like a normal car again.
As an aside I was convinced I needed a new CV joint - near side, regular clicking at full lock - loud, embarrassingly loud. Bought the kit and planned to fit but now I have done the work above the problem has gone, silence, I guess the panhard bush wear was the source?

If the drop arm was loose there's a good chance that the tracking is now out. Also check that the radius and trialing arm to chassis & Aframe bushes are ok. Bit of rear wheel steer will soon have you filling ya kecks.
not sure how drop arm effects tracking nut it would give play in steering

steering rod ujs would give plenty of play or tight spots if seizing but not vibration of road wheels that has to be after steering box

If it was loose It could have moved on the shaft. This then throws steering out. Certainly did on mine recently.

that's not the tracking
the drag link moved so much that the position it was in was equiv to your steering wheel being turned, hence the steering was out.

nuts now been torqued up correctly,found the rear steering rod is bent??? not hit anything or been offroad recently is this the right part NRC9743

would this be causing the noise though,vibrating at speed,chucked it in to my local garage,no time to work on her at the moment ,my guys cheap and runs a 90 as a daily so knows landys he is thinking rear prop ujs could be fooked wants to check them further if they are i want to put gkn ones in found these but there listed as hd?will they fit TVC100010G

if yours are the 75 mm ish ujs and not the larger 85mm ujs

you could roughly measure them , they should be the 75 mm ish ones rtc3458 or tvc100010 ,but you cant be sure if props been swapped at some ponit

How loose was the steering drop arm? I assume it's now super tightened and splines all ok with no dirt or grit in there
If you are at a standstill is there much free play felt through steering or is it more a cause of when trundling along something seems amiss
Partially seized calipers have a knack of hiding some wheel bearing play
Give everything a damn good check over it sounds like you need to find it before it's too late

its fine at say 30 m way speeds show up more of a issue,bent track rods not helping

I avoid m ways with mine. When I got it it was awful to drive. Slowly getting all the bushes changed and it's slowly getting nicer to drive... Or I'm getting used to it..

I literally just replaced the drop arm, ball joint, steering damper, track rod and track rod ends before setting the tracking. This made an enormous difference to the wandering, virtually cleared up completely. I then replaced the two UJ's on the steering rack, fantastic, honestly there was only a small amount of movement but this was represented as massive amounts of play at the steering wheel prior to swapping over. Afterwards....awesome, it all made a massive difference Rob.
Quite fancy a decent steering damper, not to expensive tho.
