Hi I have recently had my rear tub off on my defender 90 which was a truck cab but I am converting it to a hard back van. When I put the rear tub back on I tried putting the 2 side pieces on and when I tighten them there seems to be a gap on the back bit near where door is and also is seems to be miles out of line at the top of the doors? Will this pull straight when I tighten everything up?

It might be the tub needs setting at the correct height....I seem to remember having to raise my series tub a bit at the front to make my hardtop fit and for it to line up with my doors...maybe this might be your problem?
 
Cannot get owt to line up nightmare! I am now wondering if the sides are the right ones?
Doors are hitting the side panels at top on both sides. Can anyone help? Cheers lee

I don't think it would be possible to have the wrong sides :confused: I may be wrong but 88" sides would be too short and the rest would be too long.

If the doors are hitting the top of the side panels, Have you tried moving the door on the hinges?
Or how close it the top of the door to the windscreen frame? If not too close you could file the hole in the bulkhead (behind the hinge) bigger to allow more movement.
 
done a bit more faffing about and passenger door nearly shuts ok but the drivers door is about quarter of an inch out at the top, when putting sides and roof onto what used to be a truck cab should there be any other probs? do I need to fully tighten roof and sides and then check the alignment?
 
this is becoming a nightmare! I have had a play around tonight again trying to get drivers side especially aligned! the drivers door is hitting the side panel at the top, there is slight adjustment on the hinge but not enough to correct it. The passenger side is almost aligned, another problem is I cannot get all the nuts and bots back in along the inside where the tub fastens to the seat box some of the holes are out of line. Any help or pointers on this would be massively appreciated :flame2:

Generally there is lots of adjustment due to rather slack manufacturing tolerances. If you go about in a methodical order it should come together easily enough. Make sure it is parked on level ground with the full vehicle weight on the wheels. Set the tub square to the bulkhead, measure the gap between the A and B pillars at the lowest and highest points, and so on. Also it would be worth checking the roof isn't "buckled". The side panels often try to fold in towards the front, use a piece of wood and/or a ratchet strap to get them into position. With some tweaking it will come together, fit the doors last as you don't want their weight pulling things out of line.
