My only concern with saab or volvo seats would be the thickness of the base. I think i will be doing the same as vilguy.

agreed... 9k aero seats are very thick and very wide... so wide in fact that you have to lose the middle rear seat when you have aero seats, as the heavily shaped bases overlap the middle seat position.

I was looking at my other halves volvo c30 seats this morning... they have a pretty thin base, and are pretty comfy on long drive.
 
I have Saab seats in mine, there is no room for a middle seat, but the cubby box still fits nicely. Luuuvvveerrrlllyyyy and comfortable [emoji6][emoji6][emoji6][emoji6]

are they 9000 seats though, or later 9-3 or 9-5 seats? The later seats were a bit smaller in all dimensions.... and not quite as comfy ;)

Just had a chat with my mate who owned a smart roadster for a good while. He says the seats were terrible, and it was what forced him to sell the car in the end. He even spent a chunk of money having them re-padded and re-trimmed, but it didn't seem to help.

ymmv and all that, but his statements are enough to put me off smart seats for my fendy. I bet somewhere on the interweb there is a database of seat-base thicknesses for cars.

mine are all day comfortable

maybe hes just a moany bugger? At the end of the day the roadster is a sports car and not a tourer. Im 6'4 and find them delectable. Good on my back, supportive and easy to get in and out of. My 110 is 5" taller than std and getting in is no problem.

Ok, that's good to know. I've just been reading through your project thread actually...

He is a moany bugger, but I do find that we tend to agree when it comes to car seats... There are plenty of people who wouldn't like the big arm-chair 9k aero seats, so it's a pretty individual thing I guess. I'm all about the comfort...
 
Defenders arent for comfort. You can make them a bit more comfortable than standard but itll never be a range rover.

RX8 ones as mentioned do go in, but they are considerably wider and the side bolsters are quite high.

Range rover p38 ones go in pretty easily.

I can't remember if the OP is trying to retain the centre front seat or not... if not I guess there's more options as width is less of a concern.

I'm trying to resist the thread hijack, but my own fendy build will be trying to maintain the front centre seat, but with something more comfortable. Exmoor trim are the easy option, but pretty pricey.
 
RX8 seats get my vote. I didn't like the look of the smart car ones.

They are pretty much the right width for the existing seat runners, which I bolted onto the Mazda ones. The only faff was all of the brackets that I had to angle grind off the Mazda seats

Oooh, just had a look on the bay and the seats actually go quite cheap. Hmmmm. Something else for the ever-growing list!

Is it much of a kerfuffle to get them fitted securely on the existing runners?

Yeah, they are really comfortable compared to the old ones. Though the centre seat doesn't fit any more.

I got mine from a guy who breaks RX8s in Melton Mowbray for £50, the leather ones are generally about £100, but I didn't think they would work well with an upcoming expedition to Portugal and no aircon :D

Mmmmm, sweaty-crack-central.

I think I just bought the exact trim as yours....oops. Not the easiest of things to sneak in the house past the Führer...
 
So how easy were the rx8 ones to fit?

Yeah, come on. How easy? Will I get away with hardy lumpy tools and an angle grinder? Or will I need to show the world my pigeon poop welding?

I'm literally hovering over the buy it now button but want to know if it's a proper arseache.

Just on the off chance, does anybody want some rear seats and interior trim from an rx8? ;)
