I will ignore £30,000 Series 1's as they are "Classics"

But £20,000 for a low mileage TD5 Station Wagon? Good ones seem to start at £15,000.
In one sense it's great, beat the car depreciation trap etc. But l hope they don't go out of reach of "ordinary" people who don't have that kind of money.

I am guessing it's a surge due to production ending this year. Suddenly there seem to be a lot more of them around.

I haven't looked at ones for sale for ages. How old is the £15k low mileage one you've seen. I agree with what you are saying. But, on the other hand, it makes me feel better about the money I've spent on my rebuild. I'm not selling it when it's finished, just a daft internal justification thing

More than likely the end of production is like you say is bumping the prices up

Only decent ones in my budget currently are either ex mod or ratty utility companies ones with 200k on the clock!

Something else that's bumping prices up is the addition of 'vat' to cars that are blatantly being sold by a small time dealer/private seller who I doubt even makes enough money per year to even be vat registered so its a stealth way of getting more money for it

I've even seen people adding vat on CSW's as well on ebay!

It seems that if you want a clean TD5 County or XS Station Wagon (no corrosion and under 60,000 miles) the dealer prices start at £15,000.

Private sales seem a lot cheaper. I sold our pristine 40,000 mile 2006 CSW last year, advertised at £15,000 and not a single phone call.
Bought by a dealer at the full £15,000 asking price, he sold it on fairly quickly for £17,500!

I replaced it with a 110 CSW which is in a similar condition, and it cost me £13,750 from a dealer. Since then prices seem to have gone up.

However what is being asked is one thing, whether they are actually selling at that money? Thsre's a couple l looked at still for sale eight months after l bought mine.

My wifes 110 XS was stolen. She paid £17,000 for it 18 months ago. Direct line gave her £21,500 as market value! Can't complain at that.......makes my 97 110 worth more as well, probably.

Was that a TD5 XS?

I've not seen any for that money. There's one at £18,995 with 32,000 miles but it's been on sale for a while.

It was an 07 TDCi. Had only 37k on the clock. A good vehicle but replaced by an 2010 Galaxy Titanium X - more luggage space, more comfortable, quieter, twice the mpg and £6k left in the bank. Would thank the robbers given the chance!

On paper the Galaxy is better, it's always the way with Defenders. On paper they are crap except for extreme off road.

But it's about more than that. I love driving my Defender. I've owned a Lotus, a Porsche, a Ferrari and my current "spare" car is a BMW Z3 3.0 M Sport but l rarely take it out over my 110.

With Defenders you either love them or hate them.

Yep...but we don't need two in the house. So I keep my 300TDi for diving and the Midget for the summer (all two days of it).

Ah....l see your thinking.

My missus has got a 300tdi. We sold her TD5 90 and she bought a 2012 Polo when l got my 110. But she missed the Landy, and now we have one each!

The TDCi seem to be worth a fair bit more than TD5

Too right! That's what i bought mine for, the fact that i know where every single nut and bolt is, is amazing! I'm not even done yet, and i allready have that feeling of: Holy crap, i done did it. And the best bit is that it has not blown up yet!

We "invested" '91 90 TDI. Turned out she had a crack on her block, and is currently away having a recon fitted. We are actually getting withdrawal symptoms now! Not sure we can face another weekend without Janine!!
