Defender Price Drop

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed the price drop in Defenders. I paid 3600 for mine 2 and a half year ago, spent nearly 2 grand on loads of new parts, tried to sell it and the most I got offered was 2 grand.
After looking on all the classifieds gumtree, ebay, autotrader etc, theres some cracking defenders for sale at really cheap prices. you would not have seen this when I first bought mine.
Maybe the thing to do is hold on to them until the prices start to rise again.

If that's the case maybe there's a small chance I could afford one.
Always had disco's cause defenders were too much lol

I intend to hold on to my Defender because I love owning, driving and repairing the bloody thing when it goes wrong and not because I want to make a few quid out of it. I couldn't give a toss what the resale market value is. No disrespect intended of course

Forget this crap about the price going up 'cos they ain't making any more of them, that only applies to good land.
The price is going down 'cos every single Fender on the market is getting older.

My house is a lot older than it was when I bought it. I couldn't afford it if I wanted to buy it now.

Supply and demand I guess? There was a massive boost in production and sales over the last 2 years, now loads of newish ones out there, so the older ones (not yet true classics?) might take a dip for a while......?? Not in the market or taken any notice as mine is a 'keeper' no matter what. Maybe the £2-3.5k range is worst hit......? Dunno.....interesting twist though. Cheers, A

I think that they'll go back to last year's prices. There was a stupid 'end of production' bubble this year which seems to have burst, but whereas there's another, much bigger, bubble in old car prices which will burst when interest rates eventually go up, that shouldn't affect LRs too much because they are a bit more fixable and are capable of proper work.

I've spent far too much money on mine to ever think I'd get it back in resale. But in my eyes it's priceless and that's all that matters!

News to me, a friend of mine had their's stolen from the farm this year, insurance paid out more than what it cost second hand about 3 years ago

Most are going up in value. I bought my very low mileage (39,000) 2005 Defender 90 CSW in 2010 for £14,200. At my insurance renewal in May this year I got an agreed value of £15,000. It's now covered around 57,000 miles and that agreed value is not sufficient to replace the vehicle from a dealer, with similar (difficult) or more mileage. I have recently seen the same model with about 12,000 more miles advertised at a dealer for £16,995. Also the cylinder head on my engine has been replaced with a AMC unit that adds considerable value.

Yes, those late model TD5s in good condition which are still pretty original and haven't been modified are very collectable and seem to command high prices. Even though some of them are getting quite high mileages now.

You have a motor with zero depriciat ion. That's not bad at all!

I'd say the opposite. Prices for defenders seem outrageous even for 10 year's plus models especially by dealers.

Dealers seem to be putting silly money on them and seeing who pays ... they swap stock around their groups I'm sure ...

Prices steady or on the up here in the North East. Just flogged one last week, old TD with miles on, though all original, no checkerplate, hadn't been painted wi' a stick. Should have held out for more but quick sale needed!
