Defender head light issues

hi guys I have a Defender 2005 td5 when I turn the lights on I get a buzzing noise from behind the dash which comes and goes the problem is intimitant and when this happens I think the lights are dimmer than usual... any ideas guys?

Can you localise the sound, is it the switch or around the relay box?

It sounds like around the speedo area

I would try unscrewing the binnacle and have a listen from behind, you might be able to locate where it's coming from. Moving stuff around in the rats nest of wires in there may well cure it for a while

Have a sniff around - literally - any smell of burning and get it sorted ASAP before it causes a fire.

No burning smell... sometimes when I select full beem the blue light doesn't show on the binnacle, if I turn the lights on and off a few times it works then the lights are fine?

Reads as if you have a bit of a short circuit there somewhere, better to find it before it gets worse. Do you have a battery cut off by the way? if not keep a 10 mm spanner to hand just in case.
