Ive got a bulkhead here that im sorting out, as a replacement for the one on my 110.

Its footwells are double skinned on the lower section. The inner skin is flat, whilst the outer is profiled, i assume, for strength.

Looking at this image from a google search -

That one is profiled.

But then i find this image -

which shows the same profile on the inside.

Mine is flat on the inside, but ridged on the outside - so two skins.

And its not because someone has plated it - you can tell its factory.

So, whats the deal with them?

If you look at thd profile of the second one, it's different and not standard. They are all double skinned, that one looks like it's been sprayed with weld through primer and is awaiting it's second skin welding in. Looking closely it appears fairly rough.

actual foot well is single skinned

Mine is certainly double, and looks factory, so I'm confused!

It's single where the peddles go through, but double on the lowest section.

Why im asking is -

Mine has just been blasted, and I'm considering repairs. I tried to call yrm today but it was too late - wondering if their parts are one or two skins for the section I'm on about.

In the first picture, what I think you are referring to as the profiles, are square bars welded on. I think they are to help prevent the footwell warping during galvanising. They must also add rigidity to the footwell afterwards.
I presume the corrugations in the second picture are for rigidity too, but I've never seen them like that.

The second hand but excellent bulkhead I got for my restoration 14 yrs ago was double skinned .
After blasting I could see minor pin holes in the skin which was spot welded over the footwells so drilled out all the spots to investigate further.
It was rotted to paper thin underneath!!!
I got some thick sheet steel and made new single skin footwells so no water traps for me, before getting it galved
Replacement footwells were not available when I did mine and series ones are all wrong.
I couldn't fold the steel I used so made them up out of flat pieces and seam welded them up.
One thing I do recall is how flimsy the LR footwells are when that ribbed skin is removed.
Terrible rust trap they are.

The ribbed bit at the back is more or less rusted away on mine - the front skin is now thick single sheet. Then the 'ribbed' void I pumped full of cavity wax so they catch fire next time

Mines were double skinned on the original ones, have not long replaced the both of mine brought the pair off ebay the new ones are double skinned as well quite heavy from a firm called classic bulkheads in Birmingham.
