Defender - Fold-down windscreen?

If a 3 wheeled vehicle has a handbrake and a reverse gear, it's classified as a car and no helmet is required, but a seat belt is. If it doesn't have a handbrake and reverse gear, it's classified as a motorcycle and a helmet is required but not a seatbelt.

My ex mod 90 has a hinged screen and I'd been thinking about folding it down so I can shoot some pwesky bunnie wrabbits. However, it is fitted with a hard top and although I've yet to try it, I think that the screen has to go up at the top as it rotates around the hinge point and I think that the roof won't allow this. Can anyone comfirm if this is the case? Got a 2a truckcab now so the cottontails ain't so safe now!

in the hot spell in the summer the techy i was working with on work experiebnce too his doors, tilt and screen off his light weight and was passed by a gritter. he got peppered!

Is this wot yer after Trewey, We only got a mile or so down the road before we had to stop to lift it back up again! had difficulty breathing!!!!

Why do you want to do that anyway? I was riding my motorbike once with the visor open and got ****ted in the face by a bumble bee, so would of thought you be a bit exposed with yer screen down.

ffs how fast were yer goin?
Yup, that's it!
wos the difference between a landy wiv the top off and screen down and a motorcickle wiv an open face helmet (or no helmet)? - that's the "wind in the hair" feeling i want to re-create now that i can't ride a bike no more.;)

Mine has hinges, but i doubt its as simple as it sounds to fold it down. I mean you have to take into account the doors, roof, any wiring etc. A big job at a guess.
It would look cool though with no roof, doors, or windscreen!

I'd only do it when I'd got the roof off anyway in the summer. The only wiring is for the interior light, which runs up the offside window pillar - but I don't have a roof lining or interior light anyway, to make it easier to remove the roof.
All I need now is a pair of hinges.

Not very probly 50 at the very most, it was the turbulence that made it hard to breathe, probley 'cos of it still having the back bit on.
aaahhh - I take me whole truck cab off, so maybe not a problem.

Now, where can I find some doors with removable tops.....

It was a piece of **** to take off 15-20 minutes, took best part of an hour to refit it though.

Discovered the top of the bulkhead thats hidden by the screen is knackered so I'm on the lookout for a decent 2nd hand one. If it comes with hinges you can have them.

Craddocks have got the hinges - part numbers MXC7846 & 47 - £27.50 + VAT for the pair - seems expensive.

If anyone has a second hand pair kicking around, I'd be very interested.

just the roof really the door dint affect it and there shouldn't be any wiring to bother it either unless someone has bodged something in. the wipers might be a problem though

wipers arnt a problem , there are grub screws and they just pull off. you dont need to secure it down as its well stiff anyways.
id be carefull , the folding screen is designed for shooting , not driving along public roads. you get wolloped in the eye with a big bee or pigeon or summit and you could have 1 1/2 tones of out of control landrover mounting kirbs and smashing through bus stops and stuff.
top tip though , when you fold it spread some grease along the top of the bulkhead under the seal , might keep the tin worms out.

Some years ago we took the top off my brothers s111 swb but left the screen in place. Problem we found that once you got some speed up on the open road, the wind turbulence coming over the screen would pick up all the dust and crap out of the rear tub and it would end up in your eyes- not so good for driving unless you wanted to park on the nearest bus queue. Also noticed that it had a weird effect on the carpet mat in the back that would levitate like some magic carpet six inches above the floor!
