right, so got my cb kit today and got stuck into getting it on my fender. I'd read a lot of freds bout not being able to get a good ground plane cos of the ally roof (I used a body mount just above the rear door on the drivers side) and peeps having to add extra earth wires, or use gutter mounts, etc. anyway, got cracking wiv the sandpaper, got it all nice and shiny before attaching the mount and backplate and bolting it all up and.....SWR meter gave a reading of as close to 1 as u like :D happy days

time for a beer

Where does it say you can't use an aluminium roof for a ground plane?

With knowhow, the right kit and a bit of patience you can get almost anything metal to load up.

In the past I've managed a barbed wire fence, Putney railway bridge (that was a bit noisey though), a car roof rack, even a fibreglass fire engine cab roof but that did take a roll of aluminium cooking foil, and OK, it was at UHF but I also got a big hole cut in a car door to resonate too.
