Hello guys first of all I am disco owner 200tdi 4x4 nut etc and my body is starting to show tales of rust etc but axles and engines and etc are perfect and chassis is ok. and I am gonna switch to defender etc either 90 or 110 that is a decision I need to make but first of all is the defender floor an alunminum or steel? how much steel or is defender a total alunminum body?? need to know before I deceide to switch etc any guys can help?

I am gonna use my disco as a donor for all the stuff etc all I will need is galvanised chassis and gearbox and body etc which I will find and buy and then built it all up. any advice cheers:D

defender bodies are mainly aluminium with the exception of structural components such as bulkhea,d rear door posts, (110 CSW) rear tub support rails and body cappings.

The only steel bits on a defender are the entire bulkhead which can rot badly, widscreen surround, inner wings, door frames which also rod badly and the cross supports under the rear tub. Other than that it is all aluminium. Bonnet, wings, front panel, roof, tub, seatbox, floors, and door skins.
The aluminium can sometimes corrode quite badly in some places where it is in contact with steel, bolts etc.
If you are gonna have a galv chassis then you will have no rust issues apart from a bulkhead, but you can buy a new TD5 one for about £150 and modify it slightly. well worth doing if you are building a fresh one. But fill it all with waxoil or something like that as they, and chassis generally rust from inside to out.

redhand oh 110 is the same?? mmm that gives me a good idea and thinking issues!!! series doors ok yep can buy them new etc or if lucky get them second hand and respray etc what gearbox does defender use lt77 or r380?

Brillant mate!! that has convicned me to switch to defender. fab thanks I can't wait!! the only decsion is 90 or 110 ok cheers thanks for yer help.

I'd keep the chassis at 100" wheelbase. I think the 90s are actually 94" wheelbase anyway so there would not be much of a better ramp breakover angle to be gained by shortening it 6". If you use a SIII 109 body and cut it down you'll gain galvanised body cappings and a galv windscreen frame.

mine is a 90 chassis and tub but with a series windscreen and cut down 109 roof. as its registered as a series 2 it ought to have some series bits on it really!
yeah for simplicity i'd get a defender gearbox then all the tunnel will fit and ur gearstick will be in the right place. as mentioned keep the disco transfer box as is better for cruising.
100" would be ideal but as you said no standard galv chassis available for them.
90 is pretty good all round, 110 can be a bit big and cumbersome at times, especially in car parks etc. other than that they are excellent.
