Defender 90 Side Door Sill help !!

Hi all
Hope you are well.
I’m removing rock sliders off my defender 90 TD5 and noticed that there are no original lower door sills onviously.
I bought some 3mm chequer plate sill protectors.
I was wondering can the sill protectors be welded or fitted somehow without the original sills or do I need to buy the factory sills first.
I don’t off road so durability is not really a requirement, just need them secure.

I can see it working but dont think the covers outside of the door aperture have any top lip so you would have to fab some sort of bracket.
Any sills on ebay etc?
What about remove rock/tree slider, cut off the tree bars, grind and pad the old weld marks down paint and refit, so you have just the box section?

Brackets on sill. These line up with brackets on sill protectors.

as per @lynall i would do his method as this would protect the doors better than the flimsy metal

+3 it will improve the side impact protection from zero to a little if you keep the box section in place.
