Defender 90 questions

Greetings all

Does anyone know if there is a Defender get together / club in Bedfordshire?

300 tdi - What sort of mpg is achievable on urban and motorway driving?
Does the Defender make a comfortable motorway cruiser? We often make a 1,000 mile excursion to France avec collie.

Is the reliability there for both off-road and everyday use in a Defender priced around £4-£5k? might go to £6 - 6.5 with a push!

Any input appreciated!

I've got a 300 TDI 90 (1995, 100,000 miles) fitted with Hi clones that seems to average 27mpg. I don't drive that economically so you should see a bit more.

For fuel economy & reduced engine noise it's potentially worth having the discovery high range transfer gear fitted for extended motorway travel.
Sound proofing for the floor & lower bulkhead is another thing to consider, this makes longer journeys more pleasant

I have just advertised my 300tdi defender in the ads column.If you would like any info on it please get in touch.I am only selling it to buy a new 90.I have had it for 3 and a half years and it has been 100% reliable.

How about buying a 300 Tdi a £1,000 less than ur max budget and guy a GKN Overdrive for it??

I mean I drive a much modified 30,000 on the clock TD5 defender. I didnt get great mpg before fitting a GKN O/D. It also completely transformed the vehicles drive to.

Until uve driven one with a GKN you dont know what ur missing. Something to think about??
Increase in MPG, much lower revs, INCREASED engine life due to less wear. 55 was my limit in TD5. Now it quietly cruises at 60.
