Defender 90 dti not turning over

My partners defender is not working at all...about 2 months ago he moved it to the garden is was working but had to be jump started to move it but now it's not starting has no lights on dash or anything....it's got a new battery and before it was moved it had a new clutch fitted don't know what it can be....please help can't afford to take it back to garage

Firstly check that the battery is charged and the condition of the connections, then I would check the condition of the earth connection on the side of the gearbox as if this was removed to change the clutch this might be playing up, also run a jump lead from the negative post of the battery directly to the starter and try cranking it like that

Thanks lv ya a star just checked and earth wire connection on to battery was snapped...been to halfords and changed it and hay presto we now have power

Ok so got it started up and working but it's not moving now....put it in to gear and lifting clutch but nothing....it doesn't even stall??

Check the transfer box isn't in neutral.

Broken shaft or diff? Will it move in diff lock?

when the engine is on go and move the diff lever into high/low it's probably jumped out

Thanks just done that wi diff lock and it'll move but won't move in 2 wheel drive.

It doesn't have two wheel drive

Defenders are permanent four wheel drive, there's high and low ratio or diff locked high and low ratio

Lol in mi head I made sense lol...only moves in diff lock high and low not the other one

Sounds like a problem diff side... Are all prop shafts connected and turning?

That would tend to suggest either the front prop is missing or there's a problem with one of the front halfshafts

Any broken half shaft would cause that problem... do you reckon he took a tight corner in diff lock, broke something?

Hard to say, if it was working before it was parked up

When he put it garden there is abit of drop when turning from top bit into our garden could that have damaged something?

Is it possible that you / he left diff lock on whistle moving the vehicle, thus snapping a half shaft, or something?
