Hey there,

my landy
200tdi, 1991 (H reg) 90

I have just changed over my seals on my rear wheel/hub thing due to leak. I just want to check to make sure the breather is clear (as advised by dealership) but im not entierly sure what to do. Firstly where exactly is it? I can see a pipe go right into the axel, on the top slightly to the right of axel when viewed from behind. If this is the right thing, can i just unscrew (any special tools needed) it and look to see if its clear just by looking at the end of the connection from axel end. Do i need to maintain preasure or anything when i disconect it?

Im rather new, so pardon my questions if they come across as rather simple.

Kind regards Lee

Hi,
Not a very clear pic but this may help, is my axle breather on my rear axle, mine may be slightly different as it has an extended pipe going up to the snorkel.

Hey Matt, looks similar to what I thought my breather was, where. Can you just remove it, with out having to worry about the consequences of oil pressure or leaks etc? snorkel, sounds cool :) are they useful apart from the water aspect?

Rudd,

find the end of the pipework and blow down it, you should feel some back pressure and then a wiff of ep90. alternatively, unscrew the bolt from the top of the axle, try not to drop dirt inside and take the tube off, make sure the bango part of the bolt and the tube is clear and free from kinks. its obvious when you strip it down. takes 5minutes and very simple.

Snorkels will also help draw cleaner air in arid/dusty environs.

It's just a case of undoing the banjo bolt that's on yer breather, take note of any washers and where they go, follow pipe to other end and blow through with an air line. Some pipes go into the engine bay between the engine and bulkhead and others are pretty much above the axle at the rear.
There's no pressures involved by removing the pipe as it's a 'breather' and ye won't lose any fluids.... a nice easy job;)
