Defender 300tdi blue smoke

Was wondering if anyone might have a good idea what is causing my defender 90 300tdi to blue smoke??
I'll try and describe it best I can!
So upon starting she starts first time perfectly, but has a slight misfire and when I rev I get quite a bit of blue smoke.
After 1-2 mins of driving or once she's warmed up a little the misfire seems to disappear and engine runs lovley and the smoke seems less if not all stopped.
Unless I rev hard then I get the smoke again, or (bear with me on this description lol) while driving say in 3rd going down hill, using the accelerator slightly again I get the smoke.
I've recently serviced her , inc glow plugs.
Tried some redex diesel treatment.
Been told it could be the turbo, valve stem seals, or piston rings.
I know this could be trail and error for me but was hoping someone may have come across this or something similar and save me a load of grief!
Thinking of putting a new timing belt kit on, then at least I can rule out the timing.
Any advice would be much appreciated!
Just wanting to get her right before I try a little off roading ! :)
 
Today I've put some additive stuff into my oil that rejuvenates oil seals.
So I'll see how that goes and keep you posted, any other possibilities are still appreciated!!

My mate has it at his garage, I'll check in the week and post it.
It also works in gearboxes and powerstearing units I think.
 
Mine did this, then my timing belt snapped wp and broke the rockers, new rockers pushrods and timing belt, and never done it since
 
blue smoke wont be timing as its oil been burned ,you can remove bottom cooler to turbo pipe to see if turbos passsing oil whilst engines running,amount of oil in pipes an indicator too.poor injectors can also cause the issue as well as stem seals its also worth checking valve train tappets etc

I had a bit of a smoke issue recently with my 200 tdi. When it has warmed up and I leave it ticking over like when at the traffic lights then pull away some blue smoke gets pushed out. My Landy guy here said it was either a sign the turbo was showing signs of wear or the valve stems. When its rolling along no smoke. Its not bad on mine. It just passed its French MOT so I will be keeping an eye on it. My guy said valve stems would cost around a £100 labor to do. I checked on Paddocks and a new Garret turbo was about £495 plus VAT. When it gets too bad I will probably do both. I should point out my chap doesn't charge much for labor.
 
Update from me: Turbo feels fine, no excessive play. In fact hard to feel any play, tho my hands are numb with cold! Tiny miniscule amount of oil in lower turbo to intercooler pipe. literally one or two drops worth at turbo end. The rest of the pipe is clean and dry.

I'm starting to think injectors and I have injector cleaner in the fuel at the mo. What she really needs is a good run, as I have had her laid up for 6 months, whilst throwing money at her and restoring her. Has done this since I put the 300 motor in it tho.
 
Quick update from me!
Car seemed better( less smoke )
When warmed up with that fluid I put in the oil to try and rejuvenate the valve stem seals but early days yet!
But will keep you guys posted!!
 
Well done, glad to hear that your efforts paid off.
Which injector cleaner did you put in? My 110 is displaying the same symptoms so might be worth following in your treads.

I think it was Forte injector treatment, will have to check in my shed as I bought 2 of them.

Yes, a bit of a way for the Mot, but I live on a boat and every few years like to change my life and up sticks to live somewhere else interesting. However, I have been going to the same chap for my Land Rover Mot's for 26 years! Indeed my Mot is a social event!

Yes James, it surprised me as well! I normally think of most "treatments" as snake oil, but this has worked and been good as gold since! :)
