I've not heard of that before and can't really imagine the correlation, but it might be common with the 4WD Transit van ?

Was the gearbox removed along with the transfer ? If so a air hose may have been disturbed when putting it all back, just something worth a check.

If the transfer box was removed for the work, the mid section silencer was probably removed and the cat slackened off. Check the exhaust connections have been done up properly, especially the connection to the turbo.
