Hi, I have a 1989 110 2.5td with the 19j engine. I have seen a 2.5 petrol engine from a Defender 90 for sale and am considering buying it.
Can any tell me if it`s a straight swap, ie engine mounts in same place, same rad etc. I know i`ll have to drop and clean fuel tank, but what about fuel pump and wiring for coil, etc.
Can anyone help with advice.
Cheers

theres a few quides to doin it the other way round! so go by them..

my 2.5 petrol is doing 17mpg!! its a cracker of an engine really but i cant afford that so thats why im doin a 200TDI conversion.

The reason i`m thinking of the change is it`s quieter, petrol is cheaper than diesel and i`m more of a petrol fan than i am of diesels. I suppose it`s easier to tune up for a bit more poke.

2.5 petrol - 16-20 mpg
200 tdi - 28-35 mpg

200 tdi is very easy to tune for extra power - simply adjust fuelling and boost, which can be done in minutes.

Ive just done this conversion and it's great!
The only modification I had to make was to shorten the diesel downpipe by 3 inches.
If you pop over to LRO.com ive just posted the story and piccys in the defender forum.
