Defender 110 Stolen from Reading, Berkshire

Just had my 1995 Land Rover Defender 110 (reg M92 URD) stolen from outside my house today.
Clearly it has been stolen to be stripped down as it is very distinctive. We used it for an overland expedition from Australia to the UK ("globaloverland.com").
It has our globaloverland logo on the bonnet and on spare wheel cover as well as on the rear sides of the vehicle.
It has a number of sponsor stickers all over it too.
Bull-bar, snorkel, Long-Ranger tank, window grills on rear and back.

It has a lot of sentimental value to us so would appreciate if people would keep an eye out for it (on the outside chance that the idiots are stupid enough to drive such a distinctive vehicle) or hear of any suspicious parts being offered.

At the very least I believe that posting to this forums will be a cathartic experience - knowing that really, there are plenty more decent folk out there, which there definitely are!
 
The recovery people in Reading told me that a lot of landrovers get stolen round you just for joyriding around the fields. They recover rather a lot. Hope you are lucky like me. Mine was found in Arbourfield............. big pikey camp there apparentley.

Could be joy-riders but I would be surprised.
I would say that last week there has been a Cable & Wireless team digging up the pavement all down our road. I was asked to move the Landy during the week for them.
I hate to point fingers but someone would have had a legitimate reason last week for spending a lot of time around the Landy.

But without hard facts I don't want to blame any individual or group of people - if that happens it takes more away from me than my Landy.

Just an update....well, not much of an update actually! Still no sign of the Landy. Insurance company have been fairly prompt and good to deal with. Police were slow to actually send someone round. Totally separately, a friend who is in the Police has said that almost certainly he believes that it would have been put in the back of a big truck and in Eastern Europe by now....since its traveled half the world I suspect it might quite enjoy the experience! :doh:

Just an update on Insurance Company and the Police....
I have to say that once the Police actually sent someone round they were very good in trying to promote the search. It helps that the Land Rover looks fairly distinctive and so they posted details on their website and also informed local media to publish details.
This may all be too late (if it has been shiped out of the country or is being broken up) but if there is an off-chance that joy-riders took it or it was abandoned somewhere it certainly increases probability of recovery.

On the Insurance Company front, they have been swift in dealing with the claim. I was told that the last Land Rover claim they had, the LR was never recovered and they think it highly unlikely it will so they just want to settle quickly.

I would be interested to hear other people's experiences on this subject.

Really sorry to hear about the Landy, I hope it is found and comes back..but like you I think this is unlikely.

One thing I would add, you can rule out the Cable and Wireless guys, I am about to start working for them as I move to Wiltshire next month, the security checks they constantly do and at the time of your appointment makes the C&W guys being involved rather unlikely...not impossible..but unlikely.

If you settle now and then your landy is found it will no longer be yours as it will belong to the insurance company. You can either hold fire and pray it does turn up, or you can take the money and try and negotiate a first refusal deal with the insurance company in the event that your landy does show up again.
