Defender 110 abused by a Pinzgauer in a Crash

I’ve just come back from a full weekend of laning that nearly started in utter disaster.

If you’ve seen the recent video of my vinyl wrapped Defender 110 you will know I’ve put a lot of work into it.

Right at the start of this trip, which was led by a Pinzgauer, the bloke driving decided to take his handbrake off and forget he had a brake pedal. It wasn’t the vehicle owner I hasten to add but someone ‘having a go’

A 3 ton Pinzgauer gun truck and a 110 don’t mix that well funnily enough!

Thats not good. The sound bite at the end of your videos says it all really, that was indeed rubbish!

So i presume you wouldnt have made a light hearted video about it if he wasn't going to pay for it?

Hope it turns out ok and isnt too expensive.

Interesting question. I felt sick at the time that's for sure. I'd like to think I'd have made it light hearted anyway. I mean it was stupid mistake but I guess you would class what we do as an extreme motor sport and this stuff happens.

He said he would pay for it all but when the bill comes through it might be different! Fingers crossed!

Apart from the obvious a bar squashing(which protected your bonnet id say!) was there much other damage?

I used the winch an hour later and that seemed fine. The tow hitch on the back of the Pinz cut through and forced up the winch plate smashing the grill and grill surround but doesn't seem to have gone much further. I think its a new winch bumper and grill set oh yeah and a number plate! Bumper certainly did it's job!

could have been way worse, doesnt look like to much drama to sort out. hope the other guy pays up quick.

Ouch!

Got a contribution towards the damage now. Took longer than I would have liked. Certainly longer than it would have taken me if roles were reversed.

Anyway, on the upside the company that make the bumper have been in contact. I guess its good PR as it protected my car from serious damage!

Totally random, but whilst on the n.yorks laning trip (SueW's birthday outing on Saturday), I nearly ran off piste because my son pointed out the "army truck" parked in a nearby field. It appeared to be a 6x6 Pinzgauer..and whilst looking at it, my front wheels were almost up the banking/berm/edge of the lane whatever you'd call it

So I’ve been really lucky with this issue. The guy responsible eventually paid me about half the cost of the damage but then First Four off-road saw this video and have very kindly offered to help me out with a new bumper. After the original one protected me so well I’d be a fool not to take them up on that.

The original one has in the meantime been fixed to a large extent and I’ve put it on ebay today, in case anyone is interested.

All’s well that’s ends well I guess. Didn’t think my videos would ever get me this kind of result.

Tis a good result matey ...could have been better but i guess **** happens ...thumbs up to first-four though , i think that maybe the place where i'm looking at buying wing top chequer plates , can't remember but its somewhere like that ...anyway keep the films coming - we love 'em

When I was struggling to get some cash I did throw together a little video poking fun at the situation but as it reveals some embarrassing details of the incident, I held off releasing it until I got my cash. Anyway, this is something I did for a bit of fun and is meant to be light hearted!

Yep that was brilliant ....better than one of those squeeze stress balls anyway ..

I have to say, before the reshaping by the pinzgauer yours was possible one of the best 110s I have seen
