Hi all, I've been having problems with fuel delivery in my '96 110 300tdi - the fuel filter seems to drop to half full or less, even after priming to full capacity, suggesting air is getting into the system downstream. I've checked the fuel pipe and there is nothing obvious, I've replaced the lift pump as that had just failed (I'm wondering if they don't like being ran dry for long). In my "hunting high and low" the only thing I've noticed is an almost dry damp patch around the tank sender unit. I tried tightening the fuel pipe coupling at the sender unit, and noticed that the pipe can rotate around the pressed flange - should this be possible? I have an older 1990 110 with the earlier sender, where the pipe is fixed, so naturally this got my curiosity. I've not rotated it very much, and believe the end is downwards where it should be, so in principle should be in the fuel and not drawing in air. Are these "newer" sender units (AMR1495) prone to failure?

some are very poor, ive had similar issues with pipe been able to move and some with that wouldnt fit properly with out cutting the end of the pick up

Hi James, thanks for the quick reply - don't suppose you know if the pipe is continuous through the mounting flange? Tempted to replace with the older style sender unit and re-purpose the level sender cables (snip and add spade connectors - along with waterproofing caps).

BTW this particular defender came from your neck of the woods, chap called Andy who does the Iceland exhibitions!

That's not to say I have any complaints, it's been a bloody good machine up until now!
