What was the BM V8 fitted to the South African Defenders?
My friend called me today he said his friend has a write off P38 RR 4.6 auto and the engine is in very good condition as he said. So does it fit to my car easily? And use my manual LT85? I am not so fun of rover engines but if it would be way easier I may consider that

The p38 will bolt up to lt85 , you will need a V8 flywheel and clutch assy. Its basically the same as used in the V8 90 and 110 , &130 .

Forget about getting aircon from a P38 it wont go into a defender, and you would not get it to work either , as its climate air , and you would need to much lecky magic and bits. It should be possible to get the auto box coupled up to the defender lt 230 , but similar problems , as its a electronic box . you would be better off getting a hydraulic box from a V8 discovery and using that, otherwise stick with the LT85 . .

But I need an air con mate from the P38 or somewhere else, it gets over 40C outside and probably 50C in a Defender lol so I definetly need one to stay alive :))) and yes I can stick with my LT85 but my top speed is still gonna be around 75 mph coz of the gearbox even if I had 1000bhp :))

I know you need aircon , I have it on my 110 as used it in Australia, you can use the compressor on the P38 engine , you then need to find units suitable , I have an R9727 Red Dot on mine. The lt85 is capable of propelling a 110 at far more than 75mph. I have towed faster than that!! .

Yes rooftop system is the best idea for the Defender I guess I already found a local manufacturer they are quite good at rooftop systems and also quite compact , u cannot really notice it from outside if you have good roof rack like mine. Check this out, dimentions are really compact...
