A dilema i hope you can help me with !

I bought a disco 1 v8 3.9v8, a few months back, it was cheap and in good condition and local, this was my first 4x4, i have since fallen for it, i love it, however the usual fuel bills are a nightmare,

The chassis is very clean on my disco, so reluctant to sell and buy a rusted out diesel, although a friend can weld !

I have a few options that im thinking,
Lpg it - too expensive tho,
Buy a classic with lpg fitted,
Buy a disco diesel.

Whatever i do it must be an auto, also it would be a case of selling mine and buying another, so not really much cash to play with, maybe 1500 ish,

I go green laning and a couple pay and play sites,

Any input much appreciated !

you can fit lpg cheaply and easily, it isnt complicated ,tanks ,vapouriser £70-100 new mixer on manifold £70-100 new ,second hand cheaper, easy to fit i fitted my own its more difficult on later disco 2 or p38 as efi also works with ignition system but 3.9 doesnt so is easy to wire up ,you can then get it cheked and certifed if you wanted you could make it sequential which is taking gas to small manifold and piping it to adapters screwed into manifold as close to valve port as possible it is better

Been quoted 1500 fitted or seen a kit for 500 without a tank, i am a mechanic but dont want to play around with gas ! Lol ! How many miles to gallon with gas ? I get 350 miles to 100 quid on a long run, ive worked lpg out to be 350 miles 55 quid, just on the basis that gas is 70p and petrol 125p, is this right ?

Thats good, that works out to be just under 20mpg, so you get the same economy on gas as fuel, just a cheaper buying price !

yep, and I do a lot of short runs.

best advice i can give ya is get the biggest tank you can and download a lpg filling station map too:rolleyes:

On a Disco 3.9 V8 go for single point simple system. Running costs roughly half that on Petrol and cheaper than diesel. I run a single point system on the 4.2 LSE with no problems for the last 5 years

i'm stripping a grand cherokee which is v8 4.7. that has a lpg system on it full system for v6/v8 systems. it a multipoint. with tank.

Would that fit mine ?why u advise single point ? Easier to fit ? Cheaper ? Whats difference ?
Alex -how much u looking ?

Single point is much cheaper to buy and fit than a sequential system. It is also more of a DIY proposition. The single point works very well on my 4.2 which is essentially the same as your 3.9 and I wouldn't personally consider putting a sequential system on this motor, although I do have a sequential system on the Disco 4.0 with Thor management system
